Another medium for colors
« on: April 12, 2012, 01:10:41 PM »
Has anyone used chalks and then sealed them on a pony?  What about oil or pastel colors?  I have some at home and was wondering if they would work well for colors on some of the ponies... I might try it on some of my baits and see what happens.

Any examples would be wonderful!

If I'm not mistaken, Brantwijn has used artist grade watercolors years ago.. The thick stuff in the tubes. Or maybe it was oil? Hmm.. I'll point her at this thread so she can set my story straight :)

Interesting question!  It seems that it would be really difficult to use ckalks and pastels because the ponies are fairly smooth--especially the on G1 ponies.  But I bet it'd look cool!  HMMM  I might have to try it, myself.  Mom has a set of pastels.  (I hate pastes.  I can't work with them...but for ponies I'll try again XD )

I think people have used chalk pastels for customising, but I really wouldn't recommend anything but those and acrylic.  Oils are a lot more toxic and expensive, so I can't imagine them being all that well suited to painting plastic toys. :p  And watercolor is made to be transparent, so again I think they'd get expensive or not cover as well.

If you already have them it can't hurt to try on some baits, but I wouldn't go out to buy new media unless you have other uses for 'em too! xD

Good idea! I'm assuming you can just rub it off if you mess up? I may have to look into this, I'm terrified of the idea of painting blush.
