Hello!

I am planning on making a G4 custom of my OC, Moonflower and thinking about using a rarity as a base although my OC is a cream in colour so...I want to try and dye rarity using heavily diluted lemon yellow, tan or a mixture of both.

Having never used dye to dye the body colour before I would like to know...
How well does RIT dye take on the G4 ponies?
Is it a bad idea to mix colours?
Does the colour come off and/or fade?

Also, before I go out and buy a couple of MIB Raritys (I am also planning another custom using her as a base)...if anyone in the UK has any de-boxed/baity Rarity's for sale let me know!

Thanks!
~mf~

from everything I've heard, dye on G4s is very inconsistent, the heads and bodies take the color very differently, and if you do manage to get it dyed it often fades to a yucky grey color.

From what I heard with Rarity, she doesn't take well... from what I've experienced with a Pinkie Pie, the head takes it ok but the body has problems. G4 bodies have this kind of coating on them that makes it hard to do anything as far as dying. My Pinkie Pie bait's body after the dye had what looked like crackling from the heat of the water... There might be away to over come the body taking dye issue but I have yet to even try it.
Is it a bad idea to mix colours?
Depends :) RIT has a color guide online that shows what color mixes give what and how much dye to water to use
Does the colour come off and/or fade?
This, I don't know... I would think some of it would but from what I understand... Rarity HATES dye... seems the pony fully takes after her show counter part in that point XD
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

I did a G4 blind bag.  I used a green to test it for a future project.  It actually took the green really well.  But even though I scrubbed it all down there was a significant void around the neckline.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.

Thank you everyone! Looks like dyeing is not a good option.

So, my next question is...can anyone recommend some paint suitable for a full body spray?
(My hubby has a paint sprayer that I could use.)

Createx airbrush paints are awesome!  Great coverage, good quality paint with little to no thinning needed.

I looked for Createx at Michaels and I didn't find it. :( Where do you find yours? Or is my Michaels just not stocking it?

I went to Michaels about a month ago and it was clearanced!!  I get mine from Hobby Lobby, but you can also find it sold online and on eBay if it  helps.  Great stuff.

Michaels are re-doing their airbrush stuff. So some stores are gonig to stop carrying airbrush supplies all together, and other stores are just changing what they carry and re-doing that section of the store.

If you have a hobby store in your area, I'd check there. Or else you can buy online.
