To paint or not to paint?
« on: April 01, 2012, 07:34:06 PM »

About three months ago, I bought a pair of Dr. Dre beats with my Christmas money, because my boyfriend and his friends all recommended them. I looove these headphones.
Now, for a couple of months, I've been wanting to paint some kind of design on them (probably incorporating my pony-sona and maybe my fursona in the design). I am a bit nervous about this, though. What do you think? I don't plan on re-selling them at any point, but do you think its a good or bad idea?

Twis  ^.^

I've actually done a lot of maintenance on headphones, being an audio engineer, things break, also being an audio engineer you know profit margins are slim, so you learn to fix that which you own.

In my experience, most headphones can be taken apart by the user, piece by piece, though you may have to snip some wires to get everything apart. If you're not good at soldering, don't cut any wires, but if you are going to do a tear down of a pair of headphones, do some poking around online first, and be patient. If there are some clips holding parts of the headphones together, be very careful when it comes to removing them.

This thread has some pics of them after someone took them apart, so it looks doable. I'd do some more poking around, and I'll once again advise patience. Don't rush anything, don't break anything, don't cut any wires you don't need to, and don't lose any screws. Dismantling and putting things back together is infinitely easier if you take your time.

I don't think I would have to do a whole lot of taking apart, if any. I'm leaving the base colour alone (I bought pink beats, as it is is my favourite colour, plus it's a good background for my ponysona), so I was just thinking about painting something over the sides and maybe top of the head band.
Thanks for that thread though! I'll keep that saved in case i need to do any taking apart. ^-^
