Crimping Katsilk on 80's pony?
« on: March 23, 2012, 06:28:21 PM »
Ok, so I rehaired my pony with Katsilk, and I tried crimping it with a crimping iron, and it crimped fine, but fell out after a few minutes. I HAVE to have crimped hair on this pony, my question is, can I put mousse or gel or something in the hair first, then crimp. I don't even care if it ruins the iron. Any ideas? I have extra hair to practice with too, just wondering if anyone else has tried something like this.

And yes, I will definitely post pics when I am done.

Can you do lots of little braids, then pour on the hot water and let them dry?  Or is this one of those stubborn hair types?

Katsilk is stubborn. It is my enemy right now.  It really doesn't hold heat well in my experience. I have vowed to only use it on straight hair ever again.

I would go with the braid suggestion and just boil the heck out of them and pray.

I'm attempting to crimp some right now.. I have it separated into three braids.. It have been sitting for weeks.  I undid one but it was just slightly crimped, so I put it back.. I'm thinking patients might win.. but I really hate waiting, so please let me know if you find a product that works.

Aednatia, dollyhair works perfectly. It's original my little pony hair. It holds a curl superbly. I honestly can't think of anything katsilk does better than folly hair, and after working with it, I wish id found it first and not wasted my time and money on katsilk.  Dollyhair.com she has a coupon up right now too. The code is SORRY

Also, just leaving it braided doesn't work so well. Hot water speeds things up and sets hair styles more permanently.

Thanks, everyone. I'll just have to experiment :)

Maniah, thanks. I usually do use the Dollyhair nylon hair, and boil perming it looks great. However, they don't have very many blues, and I really needed a shade she doesn't have, so I thought I'd try Katsilk. I ordered the blue and a blonde blend. I HATED the blue and the blonde isn't much better. I tried boil-perming the blue hair and it did nada. I'll never order it again, but I wanted to use up that blonde. As for braiding, it doesn't look the same as crimping, and for this 1980's fashion pony it HAS to be crimped with the iron ;) I will try using hair products and see how it works :)

Thanks for the coupon code, I wish I had known that when I ordered hair yesterday morning :D How long is it good for?

No idea how long it's good for. Dollyhair made a thread here a couple days ago, posting it.

Good luck on your adventures with Katsilk!

Katsilk is very nice for smooth, flowing hair, but if you want some sort of shape to the hair, there's nothing you can do to make it keep it.  It's just not part of what the hair is good for.  Even if you can make it stay temporarily, it won't stay long term.  People have tried and failed for years.  :/

i wonder if you were to braid it really tight when it is wet and then let it dry if that would help
