Okay, my collection starters arrived.. did I do good?
« on: March 21, 2012, 04:26:04 PM »
Okay so I got my collection starters in the mail today. There are 18 in total, but one is.. well.. ill to say the least. All the others I had to clean up. They were quite a mess but I managed to get them looking pretty. Took a bit of scrubbing, hair washing/conditioning and a lot of combing lol. I'm not sure what all I snagged here but all my ponies are absolutely beautiful to me. I paid about 35 bucks for all of them and think I got a good deal. I'm lost on names though. I thought through the auction pictures I could identify some but I'm at a complete loss lol. So I took some pictures of my lovely girls and wondered if anyone could help identify them for me?

First of all, here's them before all my pampering:

as you can see, their a bit messy, hairs all matted, and some even had crayon markings!

And now here's my ponies

Any idea on working with the gal above's hair? It's very long and very curly..

And here are my beautiful G4 Ponies and my Mcdonalds Pony :)

Anyway, did I do good? Any comments, name helps, and anything of the sort would be wonderful! :)

I can't wait for tomorrow because my G2 ponies should be arriving! Their ones I had as a child and I am VERY excited about that.. Though I will need to replace one eye jewel =/

They look good to me! Strawberry Reef is probably going to be one of the best things to help you ID most of these.

I have had the best luck with cold water wash with curly hair like that.

1. shampoo in cold water - rinse well.
2. condition - while conditioner is still in - using a wise tooth comb, brush out the hair to detangle - be very gentle, don't pull too hard.
3. gently rinse conditioner from hair, gently blot dry
4. using same wise tooth comb, brush hair again (like, 1-2 passes - no more or you'll frizz it out)
5. air dry

I find that using the cold water keeps the curls from relaxing, and the wide tooth comb helps to give you nice individual curls.

before and after results

lol.. color saturation not a result of washing  the hair ;)
looking into a re-branding.

OMG those results are amazing. I've got to try this! Her hair is a frizz right now. She's really pretty though and I'd love to restore her curls rather than try and do the ringlet curls. Thanks!

I think you did awesome!! G3s usually go for 3-5 dollars each, so 35 bucks for 16 ponies sounds like a deal!! Plus they look like they cleaned up beautifully :lovey:

Welcome to collecting; I'm looking forward to seeing your g2s!

You did a beautiful job cleaning them up!   :)
You also got a really nice assortment of ponies.  I can help you with their names to make things easier.
From left to right:
Yesterdaisy (a Target Easter pony), Dream Drifter and Fancy Free
Rhapsody Ribbons, Pearly Pie and Sweetberry
Triple Treat, Starcatcher and Gem Blossom
Round and Round x2, and Pinkie Pie
Rainbowberry, Sunny Daze and Cheerilee.
The last little girl you have is Precious Gem.  I know some of the collectors here remake beautiful curls with straws-  I hope you can get her fixed up.  She's a lovely pony too.   ^.^

So did the "G1" Cotton Candy end up being the retro release with 2007 on her hoof?

Looks like you did quite well.

And all that matters is that YOU are HAPPY with them, not the price you paid.  :-p

^This!!! I think if a lot of us factored more about what we pay and less about how we love ponies, there would be fewer collectors If you love them then thats what matters! It looks like an awesome start congrats!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
