I would like some suggestions for a 6yr boys OC pony
« on: March 20, 2012, 06:03:43 PM »
About two weeks ago my seven year old son asked to have my latest custom.  I said no, not because he was a boy but because of all the mistakes that were a part of that custom.  I am making him his own custom.  I decided to make it a learning experience.  I made him a form to fill out.  For accomplishing certain goals each day he gets to fill out part of the form.  The form has been filled out and now I will only work on his pony when accomplishes he reaches his daily goal.
I am hoping this teaches him about setting and reaching goals even when the journey to the goal is filled with hard boring stuff.  I also hope this become a good reward system.  Each time he reaches his daily goal he gets to see a little bit of the end goal.  This reward/goal system can be applied to other things.
That is the back story, here is the problem.  He is a boy, not a young brony, and not into “girly” things.  I would like some suggestions on how to make the requirements for his OC custom more “guy friendly”.  I am thinking Mohawk, Clydesdale hoof, and possibly short-ish tail.
His requirements are; Twilight Sparkle bait, FBR red, mane is Dollyhair Golden Sun (http://www.dollyhair.com/nylonhair.htm) with gold tinsel, tail is Dollyhair Electric Banana with tinsel, yellow G3 style eyes, cutie mark is a 3D pink heart with a red heart inside (custom is based off G3 Love-A-Belle http://mylittlewiki.org/wiki/File:Love_a_bell.JPG which is currently his only pony), matching penguin animal companion, and I need to use glow-in-the-dark paint.

hmmm...interesting... well, the color scheme of it kind of makes me think fire, which is kind of boyish and the hair could be cut short to look like flames.
another thought- a lion pony, by adding hair plugs for the mane wrapping around its face with short golden goddess hair. Lions are pretty boyish  ^.^
Good luck, I love the reasoning behind it! Hope it goes well, and he learns a lot :)

Going on what Deeleelambbaa said, you could explore a "fire" theme with the Clydesdale-type feathering near the hooves, too! Painting the whole pony a simple black or grey (save for the butt symbol) would make it more "boyish," certainly.

One of the ways that MLP:FIM distinguishes girl from boy ponies is by the snout type. As you're using an FIM base, you could make the snout a little larger and more square with some modelling clay or plastic putty! :)

This project sounds like so much fun! Hopefully you'll share pictures when it's finished!

Aa fire or valcano theme might work.  My son has some Craftsmart neon yellow paint that may match the tail color.  I may come up with a valcano or fire themed cutie mark (with the double heart).  Place it on the back ot top of rump so I can work the tail into the cutie mark.  Cutie mark has to be the double heart and FBR must stay mostly red.

Keep the ideas comming!!
