Confidence issue with cutting hair...
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:44:35 AM »
I'm still working on customs for my friends and I'm afraid that I'll screw up the entire pony when I try to cut the hair.  I don't want anything to be so uneven that I have to keep cutting, and it will ultimately become a buzz cut.  Any advice on how to cut it right?

I cut mine about half an inch linger than I need it to be. Because I dislike how flat and even it is when its cut straight across, I like to cut the last half inch ragged. The hair hangs straight down, and I snip tiny snips off, cutting up WITH the flow of the hair. My scissor tips are pointed at the roots. I just do this till it pleases me.

If you arent sure, and you have some bait laying around, practice trimming the hair on the bait first. This is one of those things that just comes with practice. :)

Okay, thank you.  I didn't even think about using baits.  Oh, Silver Song~!  :devious:

I'm so happy I don't have that problem as I'm using the needle & thread (or knot) method and cut all the plugs before rehairing... :) With the exception of forelocks, fringes, mohawks and such, but in those cases a straight cut is what I'm looking for.

With the tool I would try to cut the hair into a suitable length beforehand if possible, so that you'd only need to trim the uneven ends. However, if you absolutely want or need to cut it after rehairing, I guess what Maniah suggested is the way to go.

(And the point of this post was...? I don't know, lol. Hope you'll find a way to get it the way you like!)

In addition to the other advice here, invest in a good pair of hair cutting scissors (I picked mine up in the hair care section of the pharmacy for about $11), and don't use them for anything but pony hair.

Ahh, pony only scissors.  Good idea!  Until I get a chance to do that, I think I'll take my 2 to work and have the beautician cut them.
