Sculpting and neck plugs
« on: March 11, 2012, 04:08:18 PM »
Im looking for some tips and tricks for sculpting and neck plugs. The pony I have has a stiff plug that takes a lot of tugging (g3). I'm sculpting up to the neck and around the body for a coat and don't want to break stuff. Should I just rehair now and leave the head on? I can always wrap the hair and head in plastic to protect it. Or cut the neck plug off and glue it when time?

I would cut 2 V's in the neck plug, one on each side. That'll make it easier to put it back in without having to glue the head.

You're welcome. I just did it on my heavily sculpted Cherry Blossom swap pony and it didn't crack. Just squeeze the two halves together while putting the plug in and you should be fine.

I generally rehair before I sculpt so I don't have to worry about putting the head back afterward.

Just did this to the neck plug for my pony and it certainly is easier. The fit isnt quite as snug, so the neck seam isnt quite as perfect as it could be, but a lot of sculpting will come up over it, so that's ok.

Now, then I say it isn't perfect, I am just being super duper picky. It really does look perfectly fine.

I need to try this as I recently have been worrying over ruining some paint work on a fakie that I've been having problems removing and reattaching the head XD

most of my customs have the neck plug cut out completely and the head glued back on. with sculpting this is almost a must!
