Guaging interest for a possible fakie project

So I was messing around My Little Wiki last night and was struck with a wonderful, awful idea.

Just to see what would come up, I typed in "fakie" and got a sad, sad little page with just a little bit of info on Rinse N Spits, Mexican Big Brothers (with no text, just a picture), and "unknown" fakies (Boleys). As a fakie lover, I was saddened. I know there are a vast number of different types of fakes out there, and plenty of fans for them. Sure they're not MLP, but they're still loved by many.

So that's when the idea came about:

Fakiepedia!

Would anybody here be interested in a fakie wiki? I'm thinking of maybe having a dates page which would list when production of fakies started, plus a page for the different types plus their variants. (A page for Remco, a page for Totsy, a page for Crumpet fakies, Cabbage Patch ponies, etc.) I can even see pages for specific attributes as well. Looking for flocked fakies? Typing in "flocking" would redirect you to a page that catalogues as many fakies as we know that have flocked variants- Remco is the one coming to mind, though I know there are more. I'd also love pages for different stores and the types of fakies that could be found there.

But it wouldn't stop at just MLP fakies, but probably encapsulate other horse toys as well, like Bryer, Barbie horses, Grand Champions, etc.

Not only would it be a good way to group them together in ways that fakie fans can easily access, but it would also give customizers a fresh breath of relief when they want to know whether or not a certain fakie would be "okay" to bait. It could also serve as a resource for the mildly curious.

Even though it's my idea, I wouldn't want to mod it since I have no experience modding (except for one other project on Tumblr) and I doubt I would really have a whole lot of time to devote to it... but I am intereted in writing for it if there are enough people who want to see this happen. So right now, I'm mostly just gauging interest.

Good idea? Bad idea? Indifferent? I'm curious to know your thoughts on it.

Although I don't collect very many fakies I think it would be cool! I like looking at different types of fakies.

I think putting together a wiki on fakies would be a lot of work, though. Considering how many different ones there are.

Isnt there a fakie website somewhere? I cant remember the address but its the one that always seems to refer to when people ask about fakies!

Either way there are never too many websites! If you have the time....I say go for it!

It sounds like a good idea, but a looooot of work.

If you're already on Tumblr, maybe you could start there, by asking for submissions, info and tagging things so their easy to catalogue and search through?

Either way, good luck with your quest! And you've also reminded me I need to get some fakie IDs on here at some point...accidentally starting a collection. :p

Hmm... I've wondered about a general website too. I think a Tumblr page wouldn't be as resourceful, since it would take a lot of page digging if the tags aren't done correctly. I've considered a Facebook fan group, but I don't really see it taking off either. Maybe I should brush up on my old and severely rusted html skills then.

That sounds like an awesome idea, however as others have stated, alot of work.

I am happy to donate some photos and try to help with some info if that would help however I don't really have the time to help getting such a site off the ground, but it would be a brilliant resource tool as there isn't really much out there in the way of information on fakies.

@fingerpaints- I was going to recommend that site too. I lurk there when I'm having a hard time IDing a pony.

I occasionally look up a pony on either ThriftyPony's site The Fakie Hideout, fakie_goddess' livejournal The MLP Fakie Project, or Ahrian's The Fabulous Fakie Guide. Whereas I would love to see a wiki on fakies, I haven't even finished my own site. I could donate pics though.

I wouldn't go so far as to include much on Breyer's and Grand Champions, that's a lot of horses. Realistic horse models are covered on the model horse gallery.

I'm a member at the Imposter forums! I just wish it were more active. Lurking around there is what made me decide to collect fakies before I decided to collect Hasbro ponies. We need to figure out a way to inject some life into it.

Those fakie guides that Tinker mentioned are also very very good, but don't really have that interactive feel that a wiki does. But that is a lot of work, and I honestly have no experience with wikis anyway... I'm starting to wonder if maybe there's another blog-type thingy that would be easy to utilize.

I'm glad to know that people are interested in the idea though.

I really like fakies. They are a way to make new pony characters, without totally creating OC's
