My Little Obsession: Cabbage Patch Dolls

I haven't seen the episode but I did read this hilarious review about it. Basically, all of us here would be labeled as nuts if we were ever featured on the show!

I saw the commercial on TLC for this show and I want to see the CPK episode--looks very interesting.  I have maybe 10 CPK and I've been to Babyland in Cleveland, Ga at least 5 times, but I am not as crazy about CPK as these people are --lol.

This. I got like 40 something pullips but I sure as heck don't hold conversations with them. I feel bad for the real-life daughter.

Those TLC shows are my guilty pleasure.... I may have to watch this...
Although I'm wondering.... What's the difference between THIS and My Strange Addiction. O.o

What.... Is.... The.... Difference? O__o

Although I may have to watch this, since I had to quit My Strange Addiction, after the hairless rat episode... I couldn't make it a minute into that episode without raging and turning it off... I clicked through the list of "Crazy obsessions" on TLC's site.... yep. This will be my new guilty pleasure show.

No seriously when cabbage patch started you had to "adopt" the dolls like a child, some stores I beleive even had like adoption ceremonies where you had to pledge to take care of them before you could take them home!!

I saw this last night :) It's on a few times this week as a rerun :) They live in a trailer while their dolls have two big buildings! They run an adoption agency for dolls themselves and sell to all kinds of collectors. They take their first doll, Kevin, to the store and he talks on the phone and stuff with other dolls for playdates. It's bizarre lol

Perhaps these were the people trampling others when CPK just came out and were the "it" toy for Christmas.

I want to see this episode myself. I also feel bad for the real daughter, I wonder what her childhood was like, did she have to take family portraits with Kevin?

However I didn't like the writer of the article's writing style, his comedy just felt so forced and hackneyed :/

I first heard about this on Yahoo and someone pointed out that the show is exaggerating when they say that the doll collection is worth over $1 million... Is this true? It wouldn't surprise me if it were true -- it's pretty typical of mainstream TV.

I saw that. And with a huge sigh of relief I realized with all my toys and all my dolls...I have not gone this far...if I ever thought I had an issue before...after watching this I feel I am in great shape.... I am  nothing like this and that was just plain too much.  I love CPD, I still have the originals I bought in the 80s with my babysitting money.  I don't use them to have conversations with others in stores and mine don't talk on telephones.  I think I have about 8 of these dolls and thats it...including the Koosas.  I have no plans to take them to their theme park either...mine are not alive.

... working retail for ten years ... we had one lady who would call in DAILY and ask to speak with our snow white dolls ... not to us ABOUT the dolls .... but TO THE DOLLS ... and she would start using the falsetto voice when she thought she was talking to them ... it was very scary and sad ... i never found out where the lady was calling from but she was 100% legit and not putting us on ...

i love my dolls and i love changing thier outfits and moving them around ... and they have their own characters ... but they are not alive ...
"Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?"

Taeyang and MLP are my drugs of choice ... that and the mountain dew flowing through my veins ... LIKE RADIOACTIVE RUBBER PANTS!

I just watched two and a half minutes of that episode, and I'm really sad. She clearly loves all those rats (and they look so friendly and happy) but she is also animal hoarding beyond her means. What if any of them gets sick, can she afford steep vet bills for 52 rats on welfare? Crazy Cat Lady syndrome, or animal hoarding, is a serious disorder where both the human and animals involved suffer. Usually affecting older women who's children have left home and are lonely (although anyone of any age can animal hoard). SHAME on some half rate TV show for exploiting that.

And I totally saw a massive roach dart about when she feeds them which suggests on some level she isn't taking car of herself and her surroundings while she is looking after all the ratties.

And what kind of person is her daughter, calling her mother weird on TV. I'd feel isolated and lonely too with a daughter like that. EW.

ANYWAYS. To stay on topic: I have a lot of dolls. I do not hold conversations with them.  I can't imagine constructing an entire new building for my collection either.

Eeep O.o Least they're happy in their craziness though. Having said that, just collecting dolls is creepy/weird/crazy by many people's standards.

One of my workmates found out I collected dolls, and she refers to them as voodoo. She found out my house is surrounded by trees and she warned me I should move out.

Evil spirits live in the branches of trees don't ya know.  >_<
