Airbrushes - Technical
« on: March 04, 2012, 02:36:31 PM »
My Michaels was having a clearance sale on a lot of stuff, but their airbrush section was special. They are remodeling the airbrush section in spring, and three weeks ago stuff was %25 or %50 off. Today I went in and they had stuff dirt cheap. Dual action badger airbrush priced at $200, marked down to $49.99. Naturally, the good stuff was sold out. I did find a single action bottom feed airbrush for $20 though.

So the technical question here is.. This airbrush comes with a can of compressed air. Nearly all of them did, as best I can tell. If i acquire an air compressor in the future, can I just get the correct hose and use the airbrush with a compressor instead of compressed air?

Is there anything special I should be aware of with buying my first airbrush?

I should note that I am a cake decorator by profession, so I work with a top feed single action airbrush on a daily basis at work. Actually using the airbrush is nothing new to me. Owning one is, and using one designed for paint is.

I thank you in advance for all your tips and advice on this!

I wouldn't think you would need anything special. You may need to check and see if it needs an adapter to hook it to a hose rather than a can. My iwata silverjet came with a ton of adapters. One was a badger so that may be an idea.

Um....it's been sooooo long since I used an airbrush but I remember buying one....I don't think there is anything special about buying one.

This is a good read before deciding on an airbrush. ;)
