Here's an image of what I've got in mind for a line of custom pony figurines...
 
The essence of it all is simple: a whole bunch of (sculpted!) hair with a chibi style pony attached to it.
 
And what 80's MLP toy is closer to chibi style, than the newborns?
 
I've got a few newborn baits on the way to develop my first line inspired by:
G2 Morning Glory, Sky Skimmer, Berry Bright, Clever Clover, Petal Blossom and (of course) Seabreeze!

I considered brushable hair for a while, but it won't allow for an over the top lush mane and tail that you can get with sculpting.

I think the sculpted or the rooted hair will look amazing!
(although I think one will turn out to be more expensive than the other)
I can't wait to see this idea come to fruition!

Oh yeah, you can definately get a lush look with nylon hair - just look at any of DarkHorse's customs! 

While I don't have anything against sculpted hair, I just prefer nylon hair because I like to comb it.  And I like LOTS of hair on my ponies.  But some designs are better with sculpted...

Either way, I adore G1 babies, they are so pudgy and cute.  I'm sure whichever you decide will be adorable!

If you are going for epic hair, you could also go with mohair or yarn that has been combed out.
