Please Help Me Make Dreadlocks?

I am doing an art trade with my friend. She is painting me a picture, and I am making her a pony. She wants dreadlocks on her pony... I have no idea how to do this. I would prefer to be able to do it with the hair I have on hand. MLP hair from Dollyhair. I don't want to have to order a lot of stuff I won't ever use again.

Can someone please tell me how to make and secure dreadlocks for a pony?

I've never tried making dreadlocks with MLP hair. I have tried it with "human" hair, or the stuff they sell in beauty supply stores for use in weaves and dreadlocks. A lot of people also go with yarn as an option. What colour dreadlocks were you looking for?

Check out this Instructible.  It shows the basics on doing them with synthetic hair to be used for ponytail falls, but it wouldn't be very difficult to use the same directions on a pony that you've already put the hair into.
