Question about Testors
« on: February 22, 2012, 07:40:32 PM »
I have several bottles of Testors that I purchased a few months ago. I've noticed that with each consecutive custom they get stickier and stickier. Is this common, and if so what can I do about it? I hate to chuck them all.

Depends on what type of Testors they are.  Are they Enamels? or Acrylics?  Enamels don't work well with vinyls, acrylics you ay just try adding a little acrylics thinner to it.

I have noticed that mine get stickier as I use it up. Since they dry so fast I am guessing it's just that as I use them, the paint in the bottle dries some. I have thinned it down with water before and had good enough results.

They are acrylic and I may have already ruined my white as I added some acetone and it's really runny now. Whoops!

Acetone and paint don't mix.  Use Acrylic thinner or just plain water.

You never want to add Acetone to something for use as a thinner. Acetone is a removal product and will ruin the paint rather than thinning it out. It wasn't designed as a thinner - you'd want to get an actual paint thinner or use water (if it's a water-based paint).

Edit: Beaten to the punch by Jupiter =)
