Unphotogenic Ponies!
« on: February 21, 2012, 04:37:28 AM »
I'm having trouble with a custom that looks really good in real life but I just cannot get a good picture of her at all. I thought it was just the light or something but in the pics, you can see big glaring flaws that you can't even see on her in real life. It's like it's adding flaws on and laughing at me:(

Does anyone else ever have this problem? Are there any tips for taking good pics?

My boyfriend suggested using photo editing software but, I dunno, I always feel really dishonest using it.

yeah i wouldn't use photoshop or something, have you tried taking the pony outside during the day to take photos of?
my house is like super dark and if i use a flash with the metallic paint i usually use, it just turns into a white blur lol but taking them outside in natural light works wonders.

Natural lighting works best for me, but if I absolutely need to use the flash, I cover it up with at least two sheets of white paper.  It works well as an easy way to diffuse the flash.

That's an interesting idea, never tried that. Definitely will though:)

I usually just grab whatever I have laying around on hand - most often it's either an envelope or a bit of paper from the printer.  Fold it up and hold it over the flash and have fun taking pictures :)

I need halp taking decent photos of my ponies.  I have some pictures up on my photobucket but they look awful.  I swear they look better in real life then they do in my failtastic photos.
