What to use for Perfume Puff hair
« on: January 16, 2012, 02:13:45 PM »
I have a friend who asked me if I could maybe make her a G3 Red Roses.
I know a bunch of people have made PP customs. What are the options to use for their hair, and what do you think is best?
Looking for: Alternate Birthflowers, Baity wingers, So softs - both minty and for deflocking - and DREAM BEAUTIES!

Well you can use roving from what I know to make PP hair. I think some customizers use alpaca roving. There has been some who have actually used Yard for it. There was a tutorial on the old arena forums. I'd need to find the bookmark for it though.
My DeviantArt, why not drop by and take a look!

I use roving, but some soft acrylic yarn would work, too. For yarn, cut it twice as long as you want the hair length, fold in half, rehair pony. Once it's in their head, comb through it to separate the strands. You could also use your fingers to separate it.

I used yarn for my G4 Red Roses.  It's the really soft yarn ment for baby blankets and stuff.

Okie, that looks amazing! Do you remember anything more about the yarn you used?

I've heard that people also use mohair :)

I have used mohair for the perfume puff-like hair style and it works dandilyy, but recently started unravelling yarn and fluffing it out with brushes like others have mentioned here and I can tell you, yarn gives a much more satisfying result. It's very light and soft in feeling, and has that slightly "crimped" texture that the original perfume puffs have. The mohair is a bit more coarser, and truth be told I ordered some this last September and never received it. So yarn-club all the way for me.

The yarn hair tutorial they are talking about is mine, its over hear~

http://www.mlparena.com/Forums/viewtopic/printertopic=1/t=259062/start=0/postdays=0/postorder=asc/vote=viewresult.html

I use Lion brand bulky yarn mostly as it gives a good result, is cheap, and widely available. find one with a high amount of acrylic for the softest result.

hmmm.... I've had a whole lot of questions about perfume puff hair lately- I wounder if I should repost this to the new arena so people have an easier time finding it...

I've used mohair as well as yarn for PP hair.  The results are different, but they both work well.

The tutorial is great. A couple of things I do:

I separate the yarn before rehairing. This makes it easier to get in the head without splitting.
I use a dog slicker brush instead of a comb. You get a nice even result and it's way faster than a comb.

Yup, I use a slicker as well (or I did when I could find my darn slciker)
