It used to be easier than it is now- before everyone discovered Taobao. You can still find cool stuff on Taobao (you have to buy through a third party agent). Generally finding stuff entails searching through hundreds of pages of poorly described/translated Taobao pages- trying to figure out if it is a prototype or test pony or just a new pony that hasn't hit the shelves yet- OR a fakie.
Finding cool stuff is harder now because a) WAY more people searching so when cool stuff does show up it sells out in seconds b) The sellers have wised up and price newly discovered stuff pretty high; c) the factories cranking out fakies are getting better and better so it is increasingly harder to figure out whether you are looking at a new licensed pony or idea, or a fakie.
For all of the above reasons- shopping on Taobao is not nearly as fun or rewarding as it once was- it was like a fun game, now it's just frustrating (to me).
Easier now to wait for others to find the cool stuff and wait for them to sell it...
