I like how your room is set up!

Like many here, however, I command both form and function, b/c (for me personally) what's the point of having bins around if I have a pony room.  I have since moved, and need to find a spot for my shelf, but here is a part of it.  It's actually floor to ceiling with drawers in the middle where I store accessories, but the camera couldn't get all of it  :P

I think it's a personal choice of how you display. I would prefer less clutter but I like having all my ponies out on display. I don't see the point in collecting if everything is packed away. I had a huge space in my last house. We are closing on our new house tomorrow!  So once the new room is set up I'll post some pictures!

My is definitely function over form. It's a small room and a weird layout, so form is whatever shelving fits in the best, and I like having my ponies all on display. Plus I'm setting up the room to be able to run my upcoming Etsy store, so it's a shared space and needs to function for both.

Yay new house! Isn't that such an awesome feeling?! We closed on our home a little over a year ago and I remember being so excited the entire day.

I'm the same way! My ponies are like little friends that I want to see all the time. So my pony room has almost all of my ponies on display, while still being organized.

I also have a bunch of other collections throughout my house and I feel the same way about them. If I can't see them, what's the point in having them? But it's definitely a personal thing.

To me, Mouse Heaven is the absolute perfect display. All photos belong to Mel Birnkrant and are of his amazing home and collection. The main display is absolutely massive and cluttered. These displays are not meant to be touched or messed with so they're very crowded and carefully organized. I've never seen a collection display with anywhere near the same impact.
I wouldn't call this cluttered- that is beautiful. the floor space is a touch too crowded for my personal taste- but those shelves all look lush, custom and very thoughtfully arranged.  not like mashing 400 ponies in a display so only noses and bangs show when that same space would artfully accommodate 250. alas I am not rich so my shelf will be stuffed like that until I get more.

It really depends who you ask! My boyfriend isn't much of a fan and thinks his displays are way too cluttered and crammed full of stuff, which I can understand. He's seen most of the in-depth closeup photos of Mr. Birnkrant's collection over my shoulder and I'll definitely agree that a couple of them are too crowded even for my taste. But that won't stop me from eventually having a similar style with my displays! Though yeah, this kind of crowded is definitely much more tasteful and enjoyable than the nose/bang pony setups.

The photos from the Bamberger's Mickey Mouse-eum are also a great inspiration for somewhat more minimal displays that would probably fit better with MLPs. Again, all photos belong to Mel Birnkrant and are of his collection! I think I'd go for a style that mixes how things were set up in the Mouse-eum and how they're set up in Mouse Heaven. Colorful, concentrated displays that focus on specific things. Probably colors for the most part, matching up ponies and dolls that fit together, and maybe some based more around set, type, etc. I don't like the stark white museum feel of the Mouse-eum displays, but I actually want to be able to take out my stuff, haha.

I think a room crammed full of ponies, like a classic "pony room" is makes a very impressive impact.  But at the same time, I feel it means individual ponies have a harder time being appreciated.  They just blend into one big rainbow colored blob.  So I guess it depends which is your favorite--individual pony appreciation, or "look how many ponies were made, can you even believe it?".  Even with my relatively small collection, pretty much only their faces are visible when I line them up on bookshelves to maximize the number of ponies displayed.  Can't see their symbols at all, which is sad.

I love the Mickey Mouse diaramas, though.  That would be really fun to set up with ponies!

Thanks. I can't wait to complete the room....definitely need to decide on a bench and rug to finish things off. This weekend I'll be hooking up the corner lights. My apartment is full of plants, so I think it would be good to extend that theme into the toy room....maybe an air plant habitat over each display?

I demand both form and function in my collection room. We moved into a new house about three years ago and have been slowly building the Geek Cave (pony room and also houses my Roommate's MOTU collection) since then. One part of the plan was to buy all matching shelving to make the room look like a nice uniform staging area. I'm arranging the ponies so that they can all be seen and no one is squashed together. You can see pictures of the half of the room that's closer to done in an older blog post here:

I love your display! :lovey:  :bigups:
Hmm form or function?  well I'm a "both" type person :P  . I love having loads on display but then I also like some sort of order too.  Some of my display is neatly organised  (some are in cupboards on shelves - I'd like some glass display cases at some point as well) , some is more classic pony room and the cluttered display still gives me grabby hands (admittedly the dusting part is not so fun  :silly: ) . Same with my dolls  although I only display EAH and Disney Tangled/Frozen ATM  - almost all my other dolls are put away in storage for now but I like to get them out every now and then :)  I like my ponies where I can see them or if I cant actually see them very well I can still easily get them out to take pics/have a better look.  My play sets have all been on display at one time but I don't have room to display all those too now ATM

Absolutely form for me :) I like my ponies to be displayed along with their accessories so they do need a little more space per shelf. I like to be able to display sets together but with plenty of room for the ponies to move arund :P  (or at least be appreciated individuallu).

My pony room is a little cluttered right now due to a lot of girl guiding items that are going to be rehomed over the summer.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

I like to keep my collection organized! I get very overwhelmed when I have a lot of stuff around me. It makes it even worst when its a mess! My house is a minimalist house. The only room that has a lot of stuff in it is the pony room.

I don't like to have the ponies all cluttered. But as of right now they are in the two curios that they are in. I also have two other curios that have my Breyer horses in them.  I have a link below that does to my facebook page. I hope you enjoy it! :)
