My name is Heather, I am a 34 year old stay at home mom.  Before my son was born I was a certified social studies teacher working as a floral designer- odd, I know. 
I actually went looking for my original collection of ponies because I finally had a place to display them in my new home.  Unfortunately they were being stored in my mother's basement which had recently suffered from flooding. (Thanks Sandy). I only managed to rescue a handful of ponies, but many were beyond hope. So I am attempting to rebuild my collection, especially since my son seems to have an affinity for these guys as well.
Also I find the new g4s adorable and have been picking them up as well.
In short, the ponies bring me joy and more so because I can share them with my son.  So I am collecting both for play and for display.
Anyway, happy to find a like minded community and look forward to getting to know everyone.

Welcome to the Arena.  Sorry to hear about Sandy wiping out most of your pony collection, it was one heck of a storm.  Thankfully we are inland enough to not have the flooding.  Any favorites you are hunting for?

Hey, thanks for the reply. It's kind of a big list, but for starters I lost most of my twinkle eyes. I loved them. Especially Galaxy. I held on to Masquerade, although she's a bit mangy, I couldn't part with her and managed to get her okay-ish- mold gone, anyway. All my sea ponies and baby ponies are gone. Mostly, I was obsessed with pegasus/winged ponies. I managed to rescue Firefly and Surprise, missing my Medley, Sprinkles, Starshine and almost all the summer wing except for like, 3. My flutters survived, yay! But I'm looking to expand that collection.  I have Morning Glory, Hollywood and Rosedust and about 5 original wings.
My earth pony list is huge, but my big wish is a decent Seashell (love the sitting pose ponies, adorable!).
Oh, and I'm looking for TAF dancing butterflies, g1 flutterbye and any thing related to or is a g4 fluttershy. Since I started watchIng Friendship is Magic, I just love her. She's my favorite! Whew, that's alot. If anyone can help me out, that would be fantastic

Also, anyone have tips for cleaning mucky so softs? Got a couple I'm trying to rescue from my original "herd".  I looked up and attempted a process from an online tutorial and ended up completely deflocking my Skippidy-doo .My son was pretty happy though, as that meant it went to him until I decide if and when I will create a custom.

Sorry to hear that you lost some of your childhood favorites   Hope you have a fun time tracking down new members though to join the herd.

I personally use a gentle hand soap and very, very gently foam it up and lightly wipe it over a wet so soft pony to try and bubble away the dirt.  It has worked for me in the past but I emphasise the gently part as it's easy to thin the flocking if not careful.

Welcome to the forum! So sorry to hear you lost most of your collection

For SoSofts, I use regular shampoo and conditioner. And cold water. Warm/hot water will loosen the glue and the flocking will come right off.
