Hmmm, I don't think I could be with someone who collected ponies (not my type of guy!)  My man does collect Transformers, Funko pop vinyls, and Disney vinylmations and pins, though. It's great BC we can collect together but separately and he is super easy to buy for when it's gift time. I do prefer he find ponies to "girly" than compete with me for them. That would be WEIRD.

I know what you mean. When I split with my ex husband we had a lot of joint DVDs and I really miss some of them and loathed him taking some. Luckily all the ponies were mine and his collection was Warhammer which was all his but it was the case with some other joint possessions. Luckily the man in my life now is amazing so even if the pony collection was a joint effort I wouldn't have to worry about it

I don't think it's paranoid at all. I've even had friends want pony related gifts back after things went down. I can't imagine how itd be with a significant other. Yeah, people are cruel, so depend on yourself for your own collecting <3

I mean, maybe I'm just saying this because I haven't found "the one", but I am not very good at sharing, probably because I grew up with little siblings who I was forced to share with. So what's mine is mine, and if you like my ponies, I'll help you find some of your own! But uh, these guys are still mine.

I'm not good with sharing either but only because I grew up a spoiled only child and there was never any reason to HAVE to share!! :p Though I've never heard of 'fighting for pony custody' I mean, what if you invested in a SUPER RARE like Punzies or MO Scoops or Greek Ladybird and only bought one?! That'd majorly suck. OR what if your SO didn't even LIKE ponies but set your entire collection on FIRE after you split just to HURT you?! Hell the eff no !! I doubt any of this would actually happen and it's possible I've watched way too much Lifetime Movie Network but what's mine is mine and people be wise to keep their grubby mitts off!

I wouldn't share a collection in those circumstances, I don't think. I did collect with my sister and in a sense we both still consider it 'our' collection, so there are ponies she has that I don't and vice versa. But we both know that the collection is not going to be united forever, and it's fine. Hers are in storage anyway.

My sister is someone I always did share ponies with and therefore can and am fine doing so And if she has a pony I like too, I get my own.

But a SO? No...I don't think I could do that.

What's funny I think about you guys who are saying you won't share... Imagine you've been married for 15 years, you share a house, a bank account, maybe a car, you pay bills together.  Not ponies though.  You need two pony rooms because both your collections are so huge... And you also had to take out a second mortgage to each buy lady bug, and also the first person who got it ended up in a bidding war with the other because even though you share money you couldn't decide who's it would be.  Lol!

I was forced to share when I was younger too, one of the reasons why I don't like sharing and I'm afraid of small children. I thought maybe I was the only one who didn't like sharing. Lol.

This is kind of a hard subject to answer. There are so many different ways that you could go with this. I myself have never collected something with a partner. My fiancé now would never collect a pony! LOL It would be kind of funny and weird if he did. He did get me three Breyer horses for my collection last year. And he does encourage me to check out stores when we go out of town. And we will be doing that later today after my Doc appointment.

Having been divorced already, was married for 9 years. I thought forever was forever. But you know what when you get married at 18 and grow your mind changes. I was not happy for a very long time in my marriage. I did make sure everything was separate for when that day did come. And it did come and I am very happy that I kept it all separate though.

i would be more afriad of a roomate or  s/o selling   part of  the collection  then agian i've  had this happen before.   both to myself and to a friend of mine where rooamtes stole items and then  pawned /sold them on ebay.

I don't share my collection with my boyfriend so that wouldn't be a problem. The only thing we collect together is plush Nintendo figures from Super Mario and Zelda and if he wants them they're his. My concern would be the cats. Now Tarzan is mine as she's been with me since the beginning of her life but the boys we got together and I know neither of us would want to let go of them and as they're best friends we can't split them up. I get sick only thinking about it and hopefully we never have to go through that.
