Can we talk about the ending of True Blood? SPOILER
« on: August 29, 2015, 08:47:33 AM »
Ok, I realise I'm probably very late on this, but I started to watch True Blood through HBO:s streaming a couple of months ago. I really really loved the serie. But.. but.. the ending!

Spoiler
You who have seen the serie, what is your opinion on this? I personally hated the ending. I was waiting to the last minute on some kind of twist regarding Sookie and Bill. Which obviously never came. Ok, so Sookie at least kept her fairy powers and it seemed like a happy ending for her. But didn't you expected something more from the ending than a dead Bill, a preggo Sookie and a boring mr unknown?

I know I'm being silly. But let's be silly for a moment. How would you have liked the stoy to end? Or do you actually liked the ending? I'm craving to discuss this with someone.

I haven't watched the series (well, I watched two episodes) but I have read the books!  I LOOOOOOVED the books.  Hilarious and exciting!  I do a lot of traveling so I actually got them on audio and the reader was fabulous!  If you weren't happy with the TV series ending (and I read your spoiler!), you might be happier with the book ending because I think the books ended the way it should have happened based on their story line.

Sorry I couldn't discuss more with you but I had to chime in because I totally love Sookie!

Question about your spoiler:

Spoiler
Who was the father of Sookie's baby?  You say it ended with her pregnant.  Just curious. Or is that the Mr. Unknown?

About Sookies baby:
Spoiler
Yes, it was mr unknown who was the baby father. We only got to see him from behind, but since all other male characters in the end were either dead, married or vampires, I guess it must have been someone previously unknown.

Aadra310: Was it something you didn't like with the tv-serie when you didn't continue follow it? I'm just curious if the books and the serie is very different from each other or if the books are better than the serie. And yes, I love Sookie too, and thanks for the tips about the books, I'll check them out.  :)

Yes, the two episodes I saw had characters that were in the books but they were VERY different and since I had read the series not long before that, I just couldn't get into the TV series.  I'm not saying the show wasn't good, I just wasn't into it at that time.

Ah, I recognize that from other books which have been films or series. Sometimes one can overlook it and appreciate the film/serie for what it is, but sometimes it's just too irritating.

I absolutely hated the last season, especially the last episode. I have loved the show for so long, and I was rooting so badly for Sookie and Eric ...
I enjoyed seeing Jessica and Hoyt finally back together.

I think that's partly why the ending was so disappointing to me. The serie over all was so... hot and played constantly on the theme of dangerous and impossible love/attraction. And in the last episode all this just dropped.

Yeah, Sookie and Eric would have been my ultimate dream ending too. Though I can think of a couple of alternative endings I would have prefered before the actual one.

Btw, Eric speaking Swedish is a real bonus for us Swedish speaking peeps. It's also very funny, since it's obvious to us that Alexander SkarsgÄrd is the only one who know Swedish in these scenes. I must make an effort to even understand Pamelas Swedish (though I like Pamela anyway :))

I thought the last episode was really bizarre.  I always felt she could never end up with a human because she couldn't turn off the ability to read their thoughts?  And wouldn't that drive her nuts?  Unless she managed to find a way to control it, I can't remember. Shows how much I cared about Sookie in general...when the main protagonist is the least interesting part of the show, that's usually a problem....
It also pissed me off that they killed Tara in the last season, for no apparent reason.  Maybe the actress wanted out, I don't know.  But she still popped up in a couple episodes as a guest star, so...  >_<

I'm also glad that Jessica and Hoyt ended up together (although they took a roundabout enough way to get there).  Jessica was probably my favorite character on the show, and I loved her evolution from when we met her at the end of season one through her learning how to embrace being a vampire, etc.  I always loved her relationship with Bill, too, because there was none of that weird sexual tension that was in so many of the show's other relationships.  He literally was her dad, and it was so sweet.  I'm very happy the actress got another good gig (Daredevil) and I'm glad we get to see more of her.

I always enjoyed Pam/Eric and I'm glad to see they remained partners.  Everyone else, well...whatever, haha. I honestly don't really remember what happened with the rest of them, and didn't really care! LOL.

I liked Jessica too, even if I wasn't too fond of the Jessica/Hoyt reunion. To me it was like "girl you could do a lot better". But even so, I liked the wedding scene, mostely because it showed the father-daughter love between Jessica and Bill.

I thought the last two seasons were just starting to get too weird. I know the whole thing is fantasy, but it got past the point of being believable for me.

I am halfway through the last book (taken a while to get round to it!) so looking forward to a better ending from the sounds of it :)

Also I fail to see how, after all the trouble she got into, Sookie hasn't ended up dead yet.

I loved this show through the first 3 seasons but then it went down hill imo.  I am an Eric fan and I disliked the direction they took with his character. This pales in comparison to how I felt about the final book though.  It was so bad that I sold it immediately so I would never have to see it again, lol. Now I have an incomplete book series on my shelf.
