Dorky question, but what about "painting" the hair with the dye? For that matter, would maybe adding something like this to the water the dye is in help keep it from running? http://www.simplythick.com/ Now I wish I still had some of it around to try...
This stuff looks like a good colour match but I'm not so sure about the application...
