How much would you pay for this Craigslist lot? yet again
« on: April 14, 2015, 07:01:38 PM »
Well, someone actually responded to my Craigslist wanted ad for 1980s ponies, yay. I think they want too much for the lot, unfortunately, and I'm not that great at negotiating. >_< What would you guys pay for this lot? They're in excellent to decent condition, the seller says. I would probably have to drive an hour or two to get them.

I see 21 ponies. At $2 each, I'd pay around $40 for the lot. With a two hour drive, it'd be cheaper to pay the shipping. The rainbow baby is the rarest of the bunch, and she's got a haircut.

I'd be tempted to go $50-$55 :)

Okay, thanks for your opinions, guys. :) She was thinking $220 but offered to sell them for $180 or best offer; I was thinking somewhere in the $40 to $50 range like you guys, so I'm not sure she'll like my offer. But I can try! And you're right, Thunderwing; I think shipping would be simplest.

i would explain why you're offering that price and she shouldn't get angry.
i've done that on ebay before, and had better results.
otherwise people often think you are just low-balling them.

I would say somewhere in the neighborhood of $50 with an absolute max of $60.  Based on my selling experiences, most of them are probably worth $2-$5 each.  I agree that $220 or even $180 is far too much.  ;)

I agree with everyone else. The ponies pictured are all common and easy to find in nice shape and the ones that could possibly drive the price up are not in desirable condition. Sundrops hair is white instead of pink, the rainbow baby has a hair cut, Sunlight has symbol rust- just, nothing stands out. It's just a group of commons which is great for the right price but it's just not worth it.

That's a great starter collection for about $50 there...

Oh dear, no.  >.<  *sigh*  This is what eBay does to people who are cleaning out their closet.  They think they've hit a gold mine when they find anything marked "1980".  I agree, $40-$50 would be my tops.

Don't forget the effect of certain tv shows...I think we all saw that episode of Storage Wars where they had some random non-collector brony appraise a box of pre-G4 that he clearly knew nothing about  >_<

$220 is wayy too much.  $180 is really high as well. I wouldn't pay more than $50-$60, as mentioned by others.

Alas the joy of a toy line suddenly getting into the main stream. If they were in guaranteed nice condition then I never see any harm in paying for a lot what you would pay to buy the ponies individually. However even doing that here would not get you to the $220 mark!

I hope you manage to get them - as you dont know the condition I think hovering around the $60 would be a good plan.
