As you get closer/complete your collection, do you like "Versions" MORE?

As you get closer to completing your collection of ponies
OR
If you already completed a collection of ponies...

Did you get to liking various "Versions" of ponies more? Less?
(And completing a collection can mean, just G3s, just G1s, only the ponies you really like, only re-getting child-hoods/whatever, it can mean anything you want it to, since everyone collects differently)

As I get closer to getting all the G1 and G3, I have found that I'm really liking versions of ponies more and more!
Like, I used to be "Well, I like dark Bowtie better than that pale one, I will collect the dark, then sell the pale".
Well then the pale one never sold and now suddenly..."I must keep both!"

Now, every time I hear about some variant of a pony I already have, it's become that I really want to have both types of the same pony. Dark & light Fizzy, the 2 Boysenberry Pies, Dainty Dahlia's (I think...the blue one PP) It has to be a pretty big difference, like obviously different body or hair, but suddenly I notice I def. like it more. The 3 Bowties (baby, light, dark) just look SO FUN on the shelf there that I am happy there are versions of ponies. But I don't know why suddenly now, as I am getting closer to completing the ponies, that versions are inspiring me. This isn't even getting an army or anything, it's just like 2 or 3 they did that are diff. from eachother. Those Fancy Pants Babies fall into this category as well, I think.

If this is true for you, what all versions did you get & how are they different?
Was it always true / you always wanted all versions even when you were just starting?
Is there a certain one where you don't care, or 1 is obviously more liked by you than the other?
Do versions annoy you instead / think each one should only have been made in 1 exact way?

I don't know how I'll have room to pile them all up...but it is very fun too!
(If you want to show a pic, or know of any not mentioned so far...of course...I would love to see too, *fans the flames of version collection*

I do like different versions like I really want argie quackers & the wingers.

The one I have atm its not really a version but its kind of comes under this
I have 2 Baby Quackers I was going to sell one but they are ever so slightly different.... ones hair falls one side & the other one the other side, & their colouring is very very slightly different (hardly anything tbh) but I just couldnt decide which one to let go so I didnt  ended up keeping both hehe.

My list of wants does keep growing every time I see a new nirvana version, I was supposed to be keeping my collection very very small .... thats so not happening now haha

I ended up buying a second Sweet Berry as she was the original magic motion opposed to my basket surprise Sweet Berry.

I also really need the Super long haired Ivy even though I have her magic motion.

I may also have to have all the Skyskimmers/Butterflies...

I have a complete collection and when getting there I found that I felt I could only class my collection as complete when I have all the officially and purposeful released [regular] versions of the line - so white star Milky Way, lavender Woosie, all the China FP babies, red hair Tuneful and so on. That was not something I ever thought of at the start of my intention to complete my collection.

Yep. Definitely as I'm getting closer to completing my G1 collection, I am becoming really interested in the Nirvanas...it's never-ending!!

I like having different versions of the same ponies, but if they look just like a previous one I don't get it.  Like with blind bags if wave 1 applejack is the same as wave 2 then I don't get her.  There is no visual differences.  The ones with the rainbows on them are more likely to be repeated because no two rainbow designs are the same.  So as long as there is some type of difference I will get variants.

I think many collectors went that way - but I'm the exact opposite! I started from wanting to have all the ponies ever made to just picking up favorites and even if I think I already made my mind I might end up selling this one instead of that one because of an sentiment or because this pony is an Italian or because her hair is longer... I'm really fussy about G1's. But now that I have a Mexican Quackers I want a regular one back... and I want a Baby Gusty to keep my alternate reverse haired one company! So yes, I want some certain variants more than 'new unique ponies'.

And each of my Confetti girls is different and I still have so many unique Nirvana girls to add!

On the other hand - I hoard G2's. I want all the variants I can get my hands on, customs, rehairs, factory errors, prototypes! I want them ALL.

I just turned down a  pony because it had a haircut. A few years ago I would not have been so picky but since I am down to a few ponies left in G3 I have noticed I have become more selective

I'm nowhere near complete, but I'm noticing versions more, definitely. I'm most plagued by g3 Merriweather! I have one, but I like both poses, and every time I see one, I want it, despite not allowing more than one of each character right now unless it has a core pose version, like Strawberry Swirl, etc. I'm going to give in eventually, I know it. It'll be some innocent, incidental purchase, in a lot or something, and she'll end up staying here forever.

I am no were close to having a complete collection. But I like Versions in ponies! That is for sure...... I think that is why I have seem to bought so many G4 ponies cause they have little things different about them. Even if her symbol is different I get it.

[/quote]    I just wanted few at the beginning  , and I was just happy to find any in any condition, then I started wanting better condition ponies, so upgraded some, got picky on what I want to keep , and was able to weed off some not very liked or not very good condition and also some  doubles, but of some of them  I want all I can get, some doubles are really variants and even Moc  ones that have a different packaging from different countries are variants to me .
But on some I just want to keep all of them , even poor condition ones, like  Spring,and the 7 Unicorns they are officially ongoing armies now
also  wanting their accessories when at the beginning I did not care for them 
as well as really disliking some of the motion ponies loose and then later on liking them when they are Moc:)

I love different versions.  I rather hunt down all the versions of a certain pony that I really like, versus CATCH THEM ALL. 

Ponies I really love, I get doubles and triples of.  I've got three Taffetas now ( One thanks to you, Masquerade, <3 ), 3 Moondusts and 2 Starglow's.  I also have three different Starshine's.  German, Greek and Mexican.  And my collection numbers under 100!
