What to do first...

So I'm new to the site and I've been prowling the For Sale boards for a few weeks. I would really love to purchase some ponies but I'd also like to build up my reputation. What things should I do first so I can get closer to participating in trades and "swaps" (which I still don't really understand yet?)?

For me I just went straight in and brought some ponies I wanted.

I would say start buying to build up your reputation, I would suggest to only pay by PayPal just so you & the seller is covered.

Yeah just pm the seller telling them you are interested in purchasing....(whichever pony)... Then the seller will b able to help you from there with postage price etc.

For starting out buying, I'd recommend you stick to buying off established members who have lots of feedback (This can be seen in brackets under their username when they post).  Maybe also look at smaller transactions for the first couple also so you are not out of pocket by much if you run into problems.  Most of our members are very helpful and honest but the internet has all kinds of people so it pays to be cautious.  I also second Lollipop's suggestion about paying via PayPal

I just started out here in November and already have a number of sales/trades/purchases.  I posted a wanted list and got a number of PMs from people who had items on it for sale, so those were some of my first transactions.  I was really nervous during my first trade and had lots of questions.  Who pays shipping?: each person typically pays the shipping of the package they are mailing.  Do you do tracking, photograph the package, not even bother?: it depends on the trade partner, but just ask

I've found that people here are really helpful and my first few trading/buying partners were helpful answering my questions.  As long as people are open and honest, that helps too.  So if you're nervous about trading/buying from someone, definitely check their feedback.

If you're nervous about anything, you can always ask for photos of the specific group of items that you're buying, or send someone a photo of the items that you're including in a package for them, so that they can verify you're not leaving anything out before you send it.  Communication is key.  Good luck!
