G1 Birthflower ponies hair lengths
« on: February 04, 2014, 11:24:25 AM »
I have just got my first birthflower pony and compared pictures on google and noticed even though most have quite long manes and usually wavy there is also ones with bobbed length hair.

Mine is January Carnation and she has bobbed hair (but looks too neat to be trimmed)

Was there a variation in the releases over the released years or all these bobbed birthflowers are simply well executed hair cuts?

I've wondered this too, as I have noticed that while the majority have curls  I have two with definitely straight hair. I do not think they are nice haircuts, their tails are the right length without getting the "square" appearance scissors give.

For the straight hair it is brushed out or fallen out factory curls. You see it in ponies like Bow Tie and Cherries Jubilee and Lickety Split as well where some ponies look as though they have straight hair but it was originally curly. Be it due to brushing as children or hair care as adult collectors, the straight hair has been created some how and its not how the ponies are supposed to be. The alternate birthflowers have the short straight hair however but the MO US ones are all supposed to be longer and curly. :) You can brush curls out with time it is surprisingly easy if the hair gets hot and wet a few times.

I don't agree with that Hathorcat, I have all twelve regular Birthflowers and 5 or 6 alt , I need to post a pic, I prefer the old arena pic stuff!

Not much to weigh in but all the pics of Birthflowers MIP I've seen have curly hair, but pictures of loose ponies with straight hair sometimes appear to have drastically different lengths (bob vs. straightened curls) that look factory.
I'm interested to learn more about this.

Is the photobucket link not working when you "preview" a post? I think it flickers in and out when it wants to post unfortunately.

Can I ask, do all your birthflowers have long hair? It would be awesome if you had a set from childhood which was completely different as it would make them very unique :)

Anecdotally, I have owned 3 complete sets and dozens of individual US birthflower ponies... and other than ponies with hair cuts, all have had long curly hair. This is one set that I still have and really worked to get MINT. Unless there are many with short hair OR someone has one MIP, I will be hesitant to think there are variants. It was a set with a relatively short run, that was mail order only. This doesn't tend to lead itself to multiple production runs, and therefore differences in hair length or paint batch. ;) 2 cents.

Here is my birthflower when i got her i was like OH!!! she has a hair cut? it is also still a lil wavy, so googled birthflower ponies and there is a few other photos of birthflowers with this length hair. So  thats why i thought maybe there was maybe 2 versions (i have not seen any mip with this length hair tho) but tbh not alot of photos came up for these group of ponies when i googled x

It may just be trimmed... While the Birthflowers ponies have curly hair it's not really that long..

Unfortunately I agree with Ivy, that birthflower looks as though she has had a bit of a mane trim. She is super cute that way though :)

My April pony is MIP and her mane is curly and it looks short. Her tail looks to be normal in length.
