Question about Sweetheart Sisters
« on: October 31, 2013, 10:04:56 PM »
Are the G1 ponies, the Sweetheart Sisters prone to cancer and other G1 issues? Or are they perfect?
Thanks!
Oh no!

Unfortunately every pony plastic can break down and get age marks. Plastic is going to break down over time, while yes some are a little more prone to it, it could happen with even sets which have limited history.

Other than the Prom Queens who I have seen several times with cancer/regrind/plastic break down issues [and even then only on the odd occasion], the others dont seem particularly prone to it thankfully. But you could never say never :(

Yeah, they can get cancer, but as Hathorcat said, they are not as prone to it as some other ponies.
I have a Twinkler with two tiny cancer spots, but then again, my Sunblossom (from the same set) that is my first, and very much loved and played with (in the bathtub and the sea!) pony has neither cancer nor tailrust.

At the end of the day, I believe they are made with the same plastic as most G1s so they act like your average G1 :)

That said, I still think they are perfect!! :not biased at all: :P

I've seen a lot of the Pretty Pony SHS with heads a different color than their bodies.   Promqueen SHS, I think, have that issue as well.  The regular SHS tend to be holding up well, for as old as they are.    I think the most common problem with them is that their earrings tend to break.

Because my G3s haven't :P I haven't acquired a G1 yet, so it doesn't hurt to ask questions about the ones that appeal to me the most :/

Another question: is plastic breakdown when the ponies' "skin" become oily? :o

That sounds like it could be the plastic stuff leaking out. Ick. Which will eventually leave the Pony very hard and not squishy. I am currently experiencing it with one of my Final Fantasy 7 figures. It's baffling how some plastic breaks down sooner than others, especially if it's more recent than some others.

Thats one of the ways plasticiser breaking down can show, yes. The plasticiser leaking will make the plastic, the body, sticky. There are other ways for plastic to breakdown of course.

None of my SHS have cancer, but I have seen a couple of Daisy Dancer's with it. They're definitely not as prone to it as ponies like Gingerbread and Quarterback XD
