Only child here! Unfortunately I was not spoiled as a child. We didn't have a lot of money in my childhood and so I didn't have a lot of toys... I can remember a large Puffalump collection, and a few dolls that I REALLY loved. We moved A LOT... I mean like 16 schools before I graduated...most of which were Elementary schools, and with all the moves toys got lost, or were thrown away. I would like to replace a few things though... mostly my Galoob So Sorry Sarah doll, Little Miss Makeup, Wrinkles the Dog and some of my favorite Puffalumps... sadly I have seen none of these in thirft stores or flea markets yet and they aren't very cheap on ebay either...

I guess it stands to reason why as an adult I enjoy toys so much! Im reclaiming a tumultuous childhood...

I'm the oldest of three. While it's nice to have siblings to play with, every kids likes some quality alone time with their toys. While we all took good care of our toys, some were favorites while others only got played with occasionally. The lesser used toys eventually got sold or donated. My mom always asked us to pick which toys we were done with & I'm grateful for that. I don't have a lot of toys from when I was a kid, but the ones I have I treasure. My favorite bear Radar (I named him after Big Bird's teddy) was the Ring Bearer at our wedding. My husband's oldest was the flower girl and his youngest was the Bearer of the Ring Bearer :P Here's Radar in his fancy duds:

I don't know what it is; there are just certain toys that work their way into your heart and become like best friends.

Pretty many only children here :9 thanks for all your answers! I love to hear those many different stories and I fell really sorry for all of you who lost their favourite childhood companions.
For myself, it was kinda 50/50 when it comes to the toys kept and those that were given away.
My parents thankfully kept my ponies and Barbies, which I got back when I started collecting MLP. My Barbies were passed on to my daughter (those that were in a good enough shape). Books too, but when my little girl got a little older (shes getting 10yo soon), we gave some of them away to younger children. My plushies sadly almost all got lost or thrown away (some of them today *cries silently*), but I kept those that were really important to me. I still have my teddy bear (Mr. Teddy), my plush monkey (Luli) and my worn off cat (Schnurri) in my bedroom and my plush horse Wanda has been passed on to my daughter and is living on her bed :) Lol, she currently wears a baby bonnet which my daughter was wearing when she was little. Well, back to topic, many toys of mine have been given away, but also many have been kept. Considering how many stuff I had back then my parents kept a good lot. Sadly they gave away my Benjamin Blümchen and Bibi Blocksberg storytape collections many years ago, which still makes me sob when I think of it.

Growing up an only child I was spoiled, but have to say compared to some I had a rather moderate amount of toys. I guess I bonded with some toys, ponies, my Cheer bear, and a stuffed dog. The only toys that I've kept were my ponies, barbies, 2 FSF's, Rainbow Brite and Puppy Brite. My parents threw away my Carebears toy box and that had a bunch of random toys that I don't totally remember and Rainbow Brite puzzles in it. The only items I have sold that I had kept were my Barbie's. I don't miss them at all. I have since re-bought most missing toys that I remember...

I am the oldest of two children.  Toys and money were scarce when we were growing up and both my brother and I loved and valued our toys above all else.  It's probably not so odd that we are now both toy collectors in adulthood :P

PS:  Cookie monster is an only monster and he is totally spoiled rotten.  He has more toys and action figures than a lot of people I know!

I'm an only child, but my parents didn't have the money for buying me lots of stuff, even though both working, and certainly wouldn't have spoilt me even if they had that sort of money. I used to make my own dolls furniture, MLP playmats, and stuff out of cardboard boxes for my toys. I inherited several of my older cousin's toys too.  I always was taught to look after my toys, and have quite a few of them now. Toys seemed a lot more expensive over here than in America in the 80s, so apart from one friend with 20 MLP, I didn't know anyone who had more than one or two of each collectable toy line. Apart from Lego of course!

I was an only child, and I bonded very closely with my toys.  That's probably why I have so many toy collections as an adult.  I did not have a large amount of toys in the 80s since my parents did not have very much extra money to spend then, but I got a lot more in the 90s.  I kept my toys for a long time, and the ones that have stayed in my collection through adulthood remain in very good condition.  I never cut the hair on my ponies or dolls :)

I loved all of my toys. I wasn't an only child, so, we grew to appreciate what we had.

Only child here as well. Also had truckloads of toys and loved then all :) Since I had so many, every year I would go through them all and sort the ones I wanted to keep and the ones I wanted to give away to charity. For years I did this, until about 10 years ago when I gave away the last things I didn't want anymore. Now I keep the toys that mean the most to me and am so happy that others could enjoy my toys as well :D Sometimes I wish I hadn't given away some of them (I had a Nosy Bear... sniff), but I like to think they made someone else have a great time and that's enough for me.

For me, as an only child as well, I loved my toys.  Still love them.  They were like my friends, since I was alone a lot.

Yes, I had a lot of toys!  I had boxes of My Little Ponies and more stuffed animals than I could count.  I loved them all though!

My mother made me throw away old toys sometimes, and it hurt me.  I felt like I was throwing my little friends away.  She also threw out some things, including a large part of my collection of My Little Ponies even though I still wanted them.   My Dad was nice enough to hide what he could from her.  He is the reason I still have a few of my childhood ponies.  :)

I still have a strong attachment to some toys.  Sometimes when I am trying to decide what to sell it is hard.  I look at the faces and feel bad about sending them away.  It's weird I know, but it happens!   I am perfectly able to part with them, I'm not a hoarder.  But I have to not think too much about it or I will just keep everything!  LOL!

--------------

Sonata - That is very sweet!  I like the idea of donating things I no longer want.  There are many I don't need, but I can't just throw them away.

I am not an only child, but I would say I had more than enough toys. I got them for special occasions such as Christmas and birthdays or for good grades, and mainly I got what I wished for, therefore all my toys were (and are) loved. Although I have to admit I played rough with them, for example I really liked to cut hair, take baths with them, play in the garden, ... so, many things are really 'used'.
I could never get rid of a single one, be it broken or smelly or whatever. Everything is stored in my parents' attic, waiting for my own children to play with, I guess. My most cherished plushies are in my bedroom, as well as the Barbies and Barbie horses.
I think the most attached I am to my Land Before Time Littlefoot and Ducky. I used to take one of them with me wherever I went, and in winter Littlefoot is still allowed to sleep in my bed, he is just so soft an cuddly.

I have 6 brothers and 3 sisters, but I always also horribly spoiled. I was my dad's only girl (biologically), so I tended to get what I want. And after my dad left us, my mom felt so guilty for me, she just bought me everything I wanted because I guess she blamed herself (even though it wasn't her fault at all.)

Before I was born, I don't know who bought it, but I've had this brown bear for as long as I could remember. My mom said she received it before I was born. I've chewed one eye off, he's been sewn up a ton of times. I also had one rabbit I got for Easter, but I don't know where she is now. :(
That bear, along with the giant MLP my boyfriend bought me, lives with me regardless. I'd be homeless and I'd still have that bear with me.
