Attempted Hack on Gmail Account from Taiwan.

Yesterday I signed up for a Taobaonow account.

I got a notification from Gmail that, around 1am today, someone located in Taiwan attempted to hack my Gmail account (unsuccessfully, thank goodness).

I have been informed that Taobaonow is based in Singapore (thanks, guys!).  I don't know if this is only a coincidence or if it is related to my new Taobaonow account. 

I was also browsing Taobao directly, but did not enter any information regarding my email.

...aaaaand it could be a glitch with Gmail, who knows!  I just wanted to pass this on just in case there is an actual security compromise that could affect others.

Er, I'd say that's a coincidence. What reason would they have for wanting to hack your email? There are lots of people in Taiwan.

True...but the same night I registered?  With an email account I rarely use? 

It may have even been a computer glitch.

...or  maybe it wasn't...doesn't hurt to spread the word

I think that was a reasonable concern and conclusions.  I am not sure I agree that a rumor is being started as much as a concern thread.  Now that we know where the company is...does that mean all the agents live there too?  I am not sure that they do and information can always exchange hands easily.

Yes I am inclined to agree with Bandit on how this might have happened.  Its speculation of coarse as you may never really  know.  I have heard that once your email is shared on any site there can be people that sell it to other people in a matter of minutes.  Oh please can we go back to 1975!

Yes its one office in Singapore - its only a small group of a dozen or so people. And as HawaiianRain points out we are not talking about a couple of countries you would commute between.

LittleSpiffy has fixed the thread title, but I also don't think there is any harm in stating that jumping to conclusions is sometimes as harmful as not being cautious.

I was thinking this too. Insecure sites are often to blame for hacking & card fraud.
