Rainbow Dash??

I think it's a HUGE improvement! I prefer pegasus to earth pony, I prefer full rainbow in hair and in tail, rather than split up between main and tail, and the G3 toon was obnoxious. New RD is tomboy and awesome!

I'll admit that G3 Rainbow Dash needed a couple more colors in her hair, but I do like them both, personality-wise.

I think of it as this way.. G3 Rarity was a bit "loud" and adventurous so if you take away her child like behaviour it's easy to say G3 Rainbow Dash became G4 Rarity and G3 Rarity became G4 Rainbow Dash... sorta.

I hope no one minds me asking this, but I keep asking this on YouTube, and no one ever replies to me, so I feel like I'm "missing a joke" or something, but I honestly do not find G3 Rainbow Dash and G4 Rarity similar at all.  G3 and G4 are my two favorite generations, as far as the shows go, but while I find G3 and G4 to be very similar, these characters... not so much.

Aside from both being really likable characters that is.

Well that's just me being silly, whilst G3 Rainbow Dash was adventurous she was also quite girly, which is why I say her "spirit" was carried over to G4 Rarity, as Rarity is the fashion pony of the main 6 but as proved in several episodes she /can/ get a little rough!

I can see where you are coming from. They have similar mannerisms in some way and overly dramatic language. The only one of the G4 main 6 I can imagine going "dahhhhlllling" at the top of her voice is Rarity!

I think people say they are similar because they do have quite a lot in common. G3RD became known as the fashionista of the group by the time G3.5 rolled around, which is quite like G4Rarity, but even before that, RD's voice actress used a tone of voice that is similar to what the voice actress for G4Rarity uses. I guess you could call it dramatic language, like "stinkycat" ( ) said. It's a way of over-enunciating their vowels and putting stresses on certain syllables. I believe this is a way of speaking that famous actresses used back in the day, so it became associated with very fancy and affluent women. Which is probably why these voice actresses chose to use this way of speaking, to fit with these characters.

Not only the way they speak and dress up, but their general characterization is pretty similar as well. They both care about fashion and looking good. In both cartoons there's a joke about RD/Rarity getting dirty with mud and the character reacts negatively to it.

Although they are by no means the same character, especially since RD has an obsession with including rainbows in all her fashion and Rarity is more interested in making fashion a business. But they definitely have a lot of similarities and I can see why people consider them similar characters. ^_^
