Fakies - Safe to Sunfade? Now With a Picture!
« on: August 04, 2013, 10:02:18 AM »
So, I picked up a Totsy fakie for $1.00 but she needs A LOT of love.  New hair, some painting, ect...
I'm not sure if that's actually what it is, as her body is lavender, but she appears to have purple pen marking around her eyes (like someone gave her eyeshadow/eyeliner).  Would she be safe to sunfade, or is this a different problem that should be treated differently?

I really love her look (like she has a naughty secret) and really want to get her looking cute again.

Do you have a picture?

I think sun fading is at least worth a shot at helping her.  I think the purple ones tend to discolor the most (but I kind of like that they do that lol).  Just remember to cover up everything in foil that you want to protect and just leave out the parts you want to try to sun fade.  Sometimes the purple ones are a really strong purple/lavender and sometimes they can fade into a super light lavender.  The purple hair also fades easily.  I have some purple ones that have almost white colored hair but I know it's faded because I have a few inbetween faded ones and also if I pull on the rooted tails a little you can see a little of the darker color inside where it's not faded.  Also be careful to fade each side about the same amount because I have so many totsy ponies that have one side of their body or face drained of color (again I'm weird and like it lol).  Sopme of that might be fading from light but who knows it might be the dye or plastic aging too.

The worst that can happen is that it will not work or maybe the pony will get a discolored burn.  No matter what I think the price you got her for was good and with a little love and work she'll look beautiful no matter what.

I have a massive Totsy army and most Totsy ponies have something going on with their condition.  I say go for it because you can always be creative make her glamerous once again if it doesn't go away or doesn't turn out how you hoped. :D

Thanks for the info!  I'm not too concerned about her hair, as it's so bad I'm planning on rehairing her entirely.  Her mane is a weird dry rats' nest (that looks like a spot may have melted) and half of her tail was gone, so I was planning on removing them before even trying the sun fading.
