I've got a lot of unpleasant stuff going on with moving and interviewing for jobs that has me stressed out to the max. Yesterday though I got some really really great news that made me jump around.
I've been searching for a good stud horse to breed my mare to (mind you before everyone panics I'm waiting till one of my jobs go through and the home is ready ect. We're thinking either a fall breeding or waiting till spring. I was only doing research to find one I liked since I figured it would take forever, and it was a stress relief activity for me!) Anyway it's been really difficult. We've always bred paints on the farm or QH and my mare is a paint (one in my dp picture), and she's always had paints. Always registered babies and far as paints go she's not a bad mare, nice bloodlines and coloring and confirmation ect. I've recently been curious about doing crosses with her though. The majority of horses on my parents farm are again paints and very few unregistered horses. There are a few big paint/draft cross geldings that (once I used to shoot off of) are used for some trail riding and pull wagons. They are massive giants and lots of fun to mess around with, and I thought it would be neat to have a larger draft type of foal with my mare. Unfortunately it didn't turn out with some of the choices I wanted since being a paint she's about a typically paint size and too small for the bigger boys.
I did finally find a horse I like and an owner that is extremely excited (I think about as much as I am) to cross our horses and see what happens. A lovely Gypsy Vanner stud! I'm very thrilled since I think they are beautiful horses and granted the baby will only be half, but I adore my mare and would rather have a half breed from her than a full bred one anyday. It should be an interesting experience, so we're planning possible dates. Point being next fall maybe (depending on how everything goes) miss Princess might be running about with a new neat little spotted baby. Hooray! I get to be a freaked out horse grandma again (lol this next one will be her fifth)
