Sorry to hear you're having to sell :(  Lots of good advice here.

My tips:

- I usually only sell ponies individually that are worth more than $5.  Personally, I just don't think it's worth the money for the time to deal with all the inquiries and shipping for $1-4 ponies.  I agree with above that eBay tends to be the best place to sell anything that is especially sought after.

- You may want to consider providing a complete listing of the ponies you have on the sales forum here with a brief note on condition.  If you don't want to be inundated with questions, you could only open your sales up at first to buyers willing to buy a certain number of ponies (perhaps 3-5+).  Or you could offer your whole collection for a certain price.  No one is going to buy it if it's not something of a deal, but again, think about your time and the amount of stress you're willing to endure to make top $.

Best of luck!

Looking for CF Minty, excellent condition! (and maybe Snuzzle and Blue Belle)

Thank you to everyone for your advice! I really appreciate it!

I am okay with taking the time to sell my ponies. They mean a lot to me and I wouldn't want to rush sales. I am not in a hurry for the cash but a steady flow of it would be helpful.

I am going to start getting my list typed up with condition and looking up prices. I may have to do a lot of price checking since I have been out of the loop for awhile. I have a ton ponies, pretty much all of the houses, and way too much just pony related stuff. I know I have the dream castle with the box. Not sure how much that is going for now! I also have TAF babies, 2 mimics, and a bunch of other mail orders.

Then I would def. consider selling on the forums... it is just so much nicer ;) And here you have a lot more buyers than you would have on Craigslist as well (as it is international buyers as well - we are quite many actually! :) ). It is true that the especially sought after ponies would do better on a place like ebay, but you could always try here first and see how it goes. Perhaps take offers? I know that a lot of sellers do that in the Nirvana sales forum and I see many of them are selling for good prices!

I also agree with the "less than 5$ ponies is good to sell in lots" - philosophy. When I sell lots of item at once I either put stuff in lots myself, or I say that the price is so and so for an already set amount of ponies. I.e. 5 ponies for *insert number*$, and you can choose from these *insert picture*.  You will not earn that much from selling like this perhaps, but you will sell out your less sought after ponies or ponies that are in less than mint condition quite quickly and with less stress than if you were to sell them individually :) And they will go to fellow collectors who most definitively will enjoy them very much!

Good luck either way though!

Sorry to hear that you have to sell your collection. But I know what its likes, been there many times. I would start out here first if I was you. You will not have them seller fee's like on ebay. They sure do add up over time.  I wish you lots of luck on selling your ponies :)

I would sell here first and list them individually. If you sell in big lots then you'll probably only get a few dollars per pony as most people don't have the money to spend hundreds at a time. But $15 or $20 per pony people could easily do :) Especially sell the rares separately! Sell here, and what doesn't sell you can take to ebay :)

aww that's sad to hear Sue. You might want to post for some of the more local collectors to come look at what you have. Too bad the Metro Detroit ponymeet doesn't seem to have a place anymore. It's much, much easier selling at meets and fairs - it takes the hassle of shipping items off the table.

Oh I am so sorry you have decided to sell your collecting

I think from what you have revealed - i.e. mainly that time is not a pressure for you - then I agree with using the Arena and ebay. You will not get collector's prices on Craigslist - even collectors who search such sites will often not expect to have to pay a collector's price on such sites.

I agree that whether you sell singly or as lots depends on who the ponies are. If you have lots of common G3s, you may find it easiest to sell them as pick n mix lots on here or as grouped lots on ebay. If its all G1s, then as long as they are in nice condition, its worth at least trying to sell them individually.

I agree that on ebay you can make more money than if you are selling them here - however that is not always the case. If you run an auction you risk a pony selling under the price you want as much as you potentially gain by the pony going higher than it should. Personally to avoid the ebay fees, unless I have something really rare which I know is going to get a nice high price when it is open to all collectors, even those not on the Arena, I will sell here. I can set the price I want and that will be guided by what people are paying on ebay and then only if I dont get interest will it head to ebay.

As to how to sell a big collection, I would suggest batches.

Picture and list perhaps 20 or 30 ponies and wait for them to sell, for every 5 or 6 you sell, picture another 5 or 6 and add them in. This will prevent you potentially getting bogged down too much. Also within the thread with all the pictures, I would also include a typed list of what other ponies you have for sale as you may find people spot one or two in the pictures and then see something in the list which they would like more images of.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
