Lol. This is my take on it, and I know that it isn't a majority one.

Personally, I couldn't give a rat's behind about the packaging. I'm buying the pony. If they come out of the box, then it's going in the recycling bin. If they are staying in the box, then the box's job is to protect the pony. That's it. I don't care if on the box that Cupcake is drawn the same as Honeybuzz, and etc. I just want that pony. lol

As for the quality of the pony's themselves. Well, I would be lying if I said I didn't wish they were better at color matching, and more poses, but when it comes down to it.....I am just happy to still be able to have the opportunity to buy ponies. I love that I can still go into stores, and have that hope of finding a pony that I don't have in my collection. I so many other things to really worry about than the quality of my $5 pony. lol

I tend to agree on this. That said though, yeah the quality is slipping but I've given up on worryign baotu it now cos it ain't gonna get any better.

I've been mostly lucky with the G4s I've gotten and haven't found too many 'bad' ones, but that might be because I'm not that 'into' G4. I think I've found the Mane 6 tend to have more issues than the 'one off' ponies. I did though have the misfortune with my Applejack that the red elastic band they put in her hair broke not long after I got her out of the box. And when trying to get RD most of the ones I found had black smudges on her in the pack. :/

I think for their size and price the G4s aren't too bad. I think most toylines have 'cheaped out' a bit in recent years.

I havent really had that many issues with my G4's... maybe ive just been really lucky...
all of mine seem to be in really good condition.
i did notice a few dents on my faves collection but i got it when it first came out and the ponies were in there for a LONG TIME..
the dents have slowly popped back out.
I did notice the extra tail plug on the princesses and nightmare moon..
but mine are pared down properly and unless you stick your nose right up under thier tails you cant really tell. there's a very tiny black dot on my snowcatchers horn.. but other than that i havent really foudn any defects..
the paint on my princess ponies slippers looks well done..
my full sized cadences hair is a wild.. but i put it in twists and now it looks great..

This is quite surprising; I've been extremely lucky with my buys, only a few of my ponies having some pretty awful errors, but this is like 6 out of 200 G4s.

I do admit, the worst luck I've had with ponies has been Apple Bloom and Trixie. My Applebloom came from the school set with the others + Cheerilee II, and her tail had the WORST frizzball wad right in the middle of it! It's so bad that I need to replace it completely. And it was caused by stray glue, PLUS the overuse of tape. (If anyone knew what color of dollhair that particular Apple Bloom had, PM me!).

My two unboxed Trixies (of course, the MiB one has no apparent flaws) were both disappointing. The first one I got, the Wedding wave one, is missing a plug on the bottom of her neck, and the weird shimmering blue hair they used for her is really greasy, and then after a combing it becomes very brittle and dry :\
Then my Favorites Collection Trixie's hair is so awful I want to get her mane and tail replaced; so dry and coarse feeling. The kind of hair she has doesn'tfeel like normal MLP hair.

Other than that, other flaws are so minor that I'm not bothered, or they don't have flaws at all!

What I hate about G4 is that obnoxious packaging. Not the back cards, but all of the glue and tape...and the dreaded "leg clamp".

Agreed on Trixie having frizzy brittle hair.  I haven't unboxed my fan faves set, but the individual one was real crunchy.  It may be just that colour?
Speaking of colour- that Applebloom!  What is it with Hasbro and using a red that doesn't appear on any of their other G4 ponies at all?  Same with the green streak on Lulu Luck, and I think that pinker parts of Cherry Pie's mane too.

I've had a couple with glue in their tails and smudged symbols, but I'd gotten them for customizing so it wasn't a big deal to me.  I also have Twilight with a hairy horn.

If she didn't have that flaw I probably would have put her on the customs chopping block. Some factory errors are kind of charming, to me at least.

The head/body colour mismatch gets annoying when I'm trying to pick out a good display specimen, but it seems to not be as bad recently.  I might be imagining it.

The hairy horn is charming, definitely a keeper! 

My unusual pony flaw comes from my very first Pinkie Pie. I did an inspection on her recently and discovered a stray, pin-dot-sized plug above her tail...with a single hair sticking out of it!

Well Glitzy Gems, looks like our Pinkies have the same issue (sorry if it's hard to see). She has a single hair plug outside of her tail.

It's not really factory issues, but I remeber hearing that the people behind the toys don't watch the show. Celestia looks an awful lot like Cadence on the box. Maybe they don't full know the differences between them or something? I don't know. It's just food for thought.

No, they are, it's just that the picture of Cadence on the box looks almost exactly like the Pinkestia toy. Same shade of pink, similar crown, pink-to-purple gradient wings, she even has the same color hoof-guard thingies when the real Cadence doesn't even have them filled in.

Just struck me as odd is all.

I just don't like how much smaller they are compared to previous generations.  Yes, it saves space for displaying purposes but they are charging more than what G3's used to be and they are smaller than G3's.  Maybe they were trying to save on money but with the cheaper quality too it almost seems like hasbro doesn't care.

Nah, I don't think they are confusing Cadence and Celestia. They probably made Cadence deeper pink so she wasn't the same colour as the too-pink Celestia. Also, the prototype of Cadence had gradient wings, so they must have thought it was cheaper or easier to make her wings in solid purple.

They got the eyes perfect. The other similarities you mentioned between the Cadence and Celestia toys are also similarities between the art of them.

The only strange thing I agree is with the Celestia toy having gradient wings. That is the only thing beyond the over-pinkedness I don't see a reason for.
