Shipping books is expensive. You can find them cheaper locally or through big name sellers.. It just wasn't worth the hassle.

Good luck.

Actually shipping books isn't bad since you can ship them media mail. Ex, 4LBs from NewYork to California is only $3.73... 10LBs $6.19...

I get the impression though that people like to buy books as a set, rather than single volumes. Even then it seems like to REALLY depend on what series it is.

I had people who only wanted to buy one book out of a set, and $4 shipping on a $1 book makes people disinterested about buying. Very few people wanted to buy more than one book, even though I offered multiple books from a series. If you can find someone willing to buy enough books, then yeah. It's worth it.

Though if you look up the actual rules for shipping Media Mail, selling books to people doesn't really qualify. It's for schools and libraries and educational materials. Most people ignore that though and are able to ship it anyway. I shipped all the books I sold as media mail, but it still amused me when I read that.

Next time be more firm.  What they see is what they get regardless of whether they want all of it, a lot is a lot.
"How much for the horse tornado?"
"Sir, that's a carousel."
"I must have it!"

I would think very carefully before parting with them if I was you.  My advice is to put them in a big box and lock them away for at least 3 years.  If after that time you still no longer want them, then sell the on.  (The will probably be worth more then too!) :)

You have two options; No fuss, make less, get the money now, or list them one by one on eBay or Amazon, and deal with shipping but make more over a longer period of time.

When I hocked my gigantic PSOne, PS2, and XBox collection (about 500 games total), I traded in everything that had a value of less than $15, and sold the rest piecemeal. I had to be patient with selling the singles, but it worked. For me, it so wasn't worth it to list and box up like 400 games, so I went to a local game store, and traded in the bunch. The ones that were worth a decent amount of cash I put on eBay or sold through Craigslist. It took a while, but I got rid of everything, and made a decent amount of cash, too.

And as has been said, sets sell a lot better. Sometimes it's worth it to buy a single to finish a set, it'll make selling it a lot easier.

I've had manga inspected before, and it's passed. My post office says as long as there are not personal notes, that it is ok. (Library stuff has it's own rules for Library mail).

As I said, I only sell my items in sets, and I tend to get 30%-75% the original price. I find it easier to sell series as a whole or as close as possible. When someone asks to buy one volume, I say no. But yeah, if you are going to just sell a book by itself, then it's much better to find a local dealer to sell to. If I only got $1 per book, then I'd just donate it to get rid of it-- because $1 isn't worth the hassle for me.

Actually to the OP, I have been in your position. I got rid of my stuff just because I kinda moved on. There are a few series I really like so I kept them (I want to reread in the future). They have been stacked in the closet taking up so much room... I was really happy to clear up that space, and take the money I made, and have that go into something else. ): It was kinda hard to do, but I don't miss it at all. The hardest hit for me though is some obscure rare things I have, but no one now is interested, since it was for stuff that never had a fan base here (and I imported it from Japan). u__u; Paying $150 for a figure, and I can barely find anyone to buy it for $15 even though it's mint in box, rare, and etc. sigh. That sucked.

Thanks for your opinions and thoughts everyone. I really appreciate it. :grouphug:

Selling them online would be too much of a hassle, with the lot setting up and the waiting and then negotiating.

As for selling them at Cons, Sakuracon over here, I don't think they'd let me just waltz on in with a box of manga to sell, and it'd be a long hassle of a process. >,<; like getting a dealer's pass, then having to get a space in the exhibition hall, all that just to sell a box of Manga.

Like a bandaid I'm just wanna pull it off quickly, just to get it over with.

After having them in a box for a while, I really didn't feel anything different, so I think I'm gonna be OK With selling some of these off, to the HPBs and get whatever they offer, low-balled or not. I will be keeping some of the titles that I do enjoy the most. As for series that are/almost complete, I'll keep those and possibly try sell them separately as lots and see how that goes.

Basically how I think I'll feel after parting with them right now. :P Most of my stuff was imported too. >,<; Sooo much money spent, just thinking about it makes me feel so regretful. @,@;

I never was a collector of anime per se, but Craigslist isn't a bad idea.
