Deflocked Unicorns Finished!
« on: January 11, 2013, 05:55:46 PM »
A million years ago I posted a pic thread when I finished deflocking my pegasi. A few life interruptions later, here are the unicorns. I did Buttons and Fifi with tighter curls, since they tend to relax over time. I also had to retouch a few eyes and symbols in spots.

Since there are so few of them in the So Soft set, the babies wanted to be in the pictures too, and I let them since there was room

Twist with flash on! I love love love this shade of purple and wish they had made more bold-colored ponies. But it was the 1980's and little girls were supposed to like pastels and flourescents.

They look fantastic.  I love how brightly coloured deflocks are beneath all of that fuzz.  Nice job :D

OMG Fifi...

They are all stunning, bet that took ages! How do you get the flocking off the symbols without taking the symbols off too?

Thank you! As flattered as I am, yes they do take a lot of time, and this makes me have a whole new appreciation for those who do commissioned customs, because I don't think I could sell them for enough to make it worth all the time and effort it took. If it didn't mean something to me to have the whole line of So Softs as deflocks that I personally had done, I would have commissioned someone else to do them a long time ago.

It's very difficult, especially now that I can't find the paste Jasco in stores (I posted about this in the customs area a few weeks back, it's as thin as acetone now) so I had only rubbing alcohol and acetone to work with on Bangles and Fifi, those ended up being the two whose eyes and symbols I had to retouch with model paint. Not a perfect match but on display they still look better than they did with mangy flocking.

Bangles is the only one who has a little bit of staining around her hooves, mouth, and ears from the flocking glue that just would not come off. But considering it had been there for the better part of 25 or even 30 years, I'm always suprised at how nice the pony looks once all the dirty flocking and yellowed glue is gone, i.e., I'm always expecting worse because of how bad they look when I first get them still flocked.
