Wow Jinxxy, I wonder what she thought "the Arena" was?  She must have thought it was some horrible place. LOL. If she knew it was a My Little Pony site she would probably be surprised.

I thought she must be a collector.. I said "Are you a member of the Arena?" she said "I'm a Christian!" and stormed off...

Not a good line to be reading while drinking tea!  Now I've got to clean off my monitor...

That is flippin awesome.  I guess we're all members of some pony cult now?

lol i've had several "pre-buying interviews" from kids selling their toys lol

my favorite was last year, early spring ans it was still rather chilly so i was still wearing my leather trenchcoat, i wear black (because i like it and as an artist i know it represents the absorption of ALL colored light and therefore it's my fav so i don't have to choose lmao) i have black leather boots witht he silver spikes and studs, a hat that is plastered with pins/buttons and i stumble upon this random really early season moving sale so i stop and i'm looking around and i see the toys ... soooo many toys ... g3 ponies/g2 lps/GOOD (non-sports crap) mcfarlane toys just all sorts of amzing toys so i'm looking and the mom comes out and we start chatting while i'm looking and then the two kids are looking at me through the door and the little girl busts out through it.

"You buyin my toys?"
"... i might ... i see you guys took really good care of em ..."
"Yeah!  You aren't gonna feed em to a monster are you!?"
*at that point I litereally laughed and asked her mom if i could show them some pictures on my phone, so mom comes over to see em too and i'm showing them pictures of my collection room and my pony room and the kids' eyes are bugging out of their heads*
"YOU CAN HAVE ALL MY PONIES CAUSE I DON'T WANT EM TO GET EATEN!"

and i got the mom to let her son keep some of the figures he had up for sale because some of em were pretty amazingly hard to find and worth a LOT more than they had em marked for ... still kicking myself hardcore i didn't snatch up the 24 inch red mandarin spawn figure ... urg ... i get sick when i think of that one ... :\

and one year i actually had a sit down conversation with a little girl about her ponies and how i had to promise to take care of them and feed them and brush them and play with them and if she ever wanted them back i had to let her buy them back lol pure adorable! lol

Something similar happened to me once. I started getting hardcore into collecting when the G3's first came out. I was pretty darned goth looking at the time (head to toe black, everything pierced etc)
I was at the store and noticed a woman digging furiously though the ponies. I thought she must be a collector.. I said "Are you a member of the Arena?" she said "I'm a Christian!" and stormed off...

:lmao:

Wow!! A pony cult!

I guess this is what some non-collectors must think of us.

Oh well, it's better to laugh it off rather than get offended :)

I actually am ordained so whoever I offended I really am not ignorant that religious people can be perfectly normal. However, when a child sees a goth and immediately thinks they are going to burn something sweet and innocent like a pony I get the feeling they might have heard stereotypes from their parents and those parents aren't exactly open-minded people.  I don't see a whole lot on tv with goth people actually portraying satan worshippers so I don't think the child would pick that up from tv. If anything there are a whole lot of shows with scary people being the good guys. Looks at Dog the Bounty Hunter and Billy the Exterminator. But kids do let their imaginations run wild so I'm glad either way that this little girl found out that people who like the goth style aren't monsters.

I've actually spent some time trying to convince some over-the-top christians that they are satan worshippers because they wouldn't celebrate Halloween because its Satan's holiday. In my mind, if your reasoning behind your actions or lack of actions has anything to do with Satan, then Satan is in control of your life. If they had said because Jesus opposes All Saints' Day, then Jesus would be in control.

I think I'd bust up laughing if some little girl said that to me.
I don't get why some of you guys are mad at the mother. I can understand if she literally was just making her sell them because "YOU'RE TOO OLD FOR HAPPINESS", but you don't know anything about them or their situation. Perhaps Mom got laid off and has to sell things that aren't needed so she can make rent and be able to feed her family. Assuming the worst isn't a good thing to do.

I have really, really long dark blonde hair and I live on an island with a white minority, so kids often stare at me and my hair like I just stepped out of the movie Tangled. Alot of times they want to touch it to.

I now want to see everyone's long hair.  I get some kids saying Rapunzel even though my hair is brown.  Adults usually say Rapunzel or they ask if I belong to a religion that doesn't allow hair to be cut (I do not).  I get Pocahontas occasionally too.  Only once was I a witch.
