Original Tomb Raiders 1-3. Anyone play them or remember?

OMG, Tomb Raider! 

Aadra and I played the first 5 of them in high school.  I remember us freaking out when we realized that the enemies in the second one were "smarter" and could follow Lara around so we couldn't just climb a block and shoot them at our leisure.  We had the games so figured out - we knew how many "blocks" she could jump at once to decide whether or not we needed to do a running jump or not, how many blocks she could swim in one stroke, etc.  I'm a bit of a chicken so I couldn't ever play them alone - too many surprise bad guys popping up everywhere.  In the first one, when the mummies and Atlanteans started appearing, that was where I had to quit.  Aadra had to do all those levels.  I was a really good sniper, though.

OMG, did you play the updated 10th Anniversary edition?  The Atlanteans were even  creepier.  O.o

And NATLA!  What was up with that?!  "Sorry, Lara!" and then you had to kill her again?! 

Though to this day, if I am at a flea market digging through a bin or something and I find a pony, I will occasionally go, "Ah-ha..." like when you find a Secret or Medi-Pak or something.  I tell ya, the stuff that sticks with ya.

I first got scared by the time monkeys started jumping out at me and screaming. All the TR games scare the crap out of me. I literally scream all high pitched and scare anyone whose around me.

The anniversary edition is exactly the same as the first one right? Just with updated graphics?

I loved them but sometime it scared me so I always played it without any sound

Most of the time my dad played it and I'd sat beside him and helped him (also doing the harder moves lol)

It was fun - I miss it.

I grew up on those games! 1-3 were so beautifully written! The mysterious music, the spooky places you went, ah, nostalgia!! I use to get so freaked out with certain levels.

Yeah, Anniversary was updated graphics and the levels were a bit different while still having the same basic goal.

I think I have never been more freaked out in my life than the first time that massive t-rex came around that corner and started bearing down on me.  I had to pause the game and ..... go away for an hour or so.  In the Anniversary edition I KNEW what was going to happen and I STILL was all, "Oh, no.  No.  No no no.  Nonononononononono!!!!!!!!!!" but I didn't get the option to run away that time.  And there were TWO t-rexes at once in the second game, out of nowhere!!

But the mummies/Atlanteans still win, hands down, for creepiest thing I have ever had chasing me. 


I remember when Chronicles came out, Aadra had already played the cyborg levels near the end at her hourse and was over at mine helping me.  I remember we had Lara running down some corridor and Aadra was all, "Be careful, because these guys are gonna come out with those 1-hit kill laser guns so you might want to slow down and look for cover."  And I was all, "LOLWUT?" because as she was saying this they jumped out and I managed to head shot both of them without breaking stride.  She just kinda sat there like, "......That took me 10 tries.  I hate you."  GOOD TIMES.

I LOVE Tomb Raider! I own all the ps1 / ps2 and two of the PSP games. Make me wanna play the game now ya mention it . I still even go 'Ah-ha!' like Lara to this day. My fave one has to be 3, even though the game is quite dark and you end up using a lot of flares. Of course the very first Tomb Raider is a classic, lost valley anyone? and who can forget Dopelganer Lara AKA 'Bacon Lara' *shivers* and let's not forget the famous 'lock the butler in the freezer'

Now a thought comes to mind.. who else here tried to get the quad bike out of the quad bike course? Cause it was such a bugger to get out!
