i collect all gens

I love all the gens really and some non MLP too

I have to say gen 3.5 the heads put me off

The ponies are very precious to me because i first met some of the gen 1 ponies when i went to a daycare at the age of 3-4 years old. I fell in love with them and have loved them ever sense.  I put them away for a while and when i found them in the attic all the fond memories of playing with them with my baby sister came back.

well i gre up int eh 80s so i grew up witht he orignal g1's. i remember watching  fireflys  advneture and escape form katrina.  and getting the dream castle  and the  show stable and majesty.  and just playing with ponys  was soemthing i did. i dunno why tehres speical i love ponys.. and thre all so pretty.  i  do have a coule G4's.  but i am proably not going to  collect them.  i did preorder a zecora though becuse i like  her.  but i would perosnally finish my G1's and  then g3's.  now that i just getting into seriously collecting.

What are your favorite pony generations (g1, g2, g3, g4)? G1s because I'm the most attached to them.  I really thought that the G3 line was great until the core 7 clones though.

Least favorite?  G3.5s, they look like LPS ponies to me, not real ponies.  However, I do think that they were great as Ponyville ponies.

I collect them because they make me happy.  I have a lot of good memories associated with them from childhood.  (mostly my father and grandmother who are both gone now)  In 2000 all of my childhood collection except for Lavender Lace (which was also the last pony I got as a child and hadn't been packed away) was stolen out of a storage unit.  I didn't realize that the pony community existed until about a year after that.  And then it probably took me a year after that to even really look at ponies and decide that I wanted to collect them again because I was so hurt over my original collection being stolen.  After I started collecting, I enjoyed it so much that I've never really stopped, although I don't get myself ponies but a couple times a year now.

I have an online friend that collected Pokémon with me who is 100% addicted to FiM. It tends to take over all of her sites and she had told me several times to watch the show. After about a year, I finally caved and started watching it. And I became addicted to it. While my love started with FiM, once I got into the collecting part of it I found a deep adoration for G3. I love how much variety is there and I think they are the best as far as design goes. I don't like the design of G2. I may change my mind if I ever find any, but at the moment I just find them too rounded and a bit bland in detail.

Love G1 because they're the Original Gangsters! & I adore the plumpness of them.

I don't have any G3.5 newborn cuties because they're weird-looking & not brushable. Although! If I ran across 'em at a thrift store, I might buy them if they were cheap. I'm not going to purposely hunt any down though. (sorry bebeh ponies )

I collect g1 mostly but I also collect the mane six of FIM.
I like the collector and art pony g3's as well as a few random ones here and there, but I am majorly trying to downsize my collection at this time..

I dislike g3.5 (like most people do!) and I'm not a fan of g2's, not because of the skinnyness but because of the way their heads are squished flat and that smile.. >.>


I started collecting about twelve years ago and MLP has been super special to be ever since. I was just coming out of a tomboy phaze (no girl toys when  was a kid) and the softness and sweetness of mlp was irresistible to me. They got me drawing like crazy and around that time was when I first discovered the furry fandom as well. I also love to collect them and their bright little faces cheer me up.. <3

I dislike G2's bc to me they look like beaked llamas with scary reptilian eyes.

It's special to me for a reason which I know I've churned out a few times on the arena. A nurse looking after me when I was in hospital was particularly inspirational to me (and helped save my life) and it was her who introduced me to FiM. I was having a panic attack due to my NG feed, and she said that we were going to 'get our bums on the couch, get comfy and watch ponies' until I'd calmed down. It worked. When I was struggling to manage hot food, she bought me a few tins of MLP pasta.. and on one particular 'down' day when I was laying on my bed, she came in and slipped her RD blind bag into my hand and told me to always keep her with me, to remember that 'someone (she) would always care'

So yeah.. ponies have a much deeper meaning to me. As well as reminding me of Rachel (the nurse), it also helps me find a place to escape when life is getting too dark and heavy. I think everybody needs that.

The largest part of my collection is made up of G1s, though.

-G1, because of nostalgia goggles and because the figures looked the best of all gens in my opinion
-G4, because it's a great reboot, is very cute and stylish and has endearing characters and humor

Least favorite?
G3.5, because they look extremely distorted and creepy. Also the cartoon was dumbed down and kinda misogynistic...

-Because they are cute

I grew up with it.  My first pony was G1 "Cotton Candy".  I dislike G2 because it took away the original charm of the G1's.  I dislike G3.5 because the faces are too deformed.

G1s are the toys that I loved best as a young'un and I associate happy memories with them. The are the only thing I really collect anymore and I still get really happy when I find them in the thrift stores.

G2's were the gen that I liked least(up until 3.5) because they were so different looking. I did not think of them as real MLPs. I don't like 3.5s cuz they look deformed and trying to imitate littlest pet shop stuff at the time, which I also don't really like.

Thanks for the many replies, it has been very interesting to get an idea of age range and background stories, to find out why everyone here loves mlp so much as well as the different reasons for collecting.

It has also been really cool to find out which mlps folks collect the most, which are their favorites and why, and which they don't care for as much. It's really awesome to be a part of such an interesting and diverse group.

love them because they have memories attached to them and had most of them from my mum, nainy and taidy and as they have passed away now they are kinda sentimental and as i got my 1st pony in 84 g1 is my fave
the others i just dont have alot of love for g2s i thought looked like fakes g3 was a bit better but i think the eyes are a bit to big g3.5 just yuk ! g4 seem to have alot of quality controle issues .

I primarily collect G1, but I have one G2 and a couple G3s, and some G4s too.  The first gen will always be my favorite though, I grew up with them 

MLP is special to me because it was something that was happy and good from my childhood.  My ponies were my favorite toys and they meant a lot to me.  I decided to collect when I found my old ponies and went around searching for cleaning tips.  I found the Arena and the rest is history!  I don't really hate any gen, but the 3.5s are my least favorite.  I thought they looked stupid and there was no variety at all!

I've always loved horses, and no matter what toys I outgrew/did away with, I never parted with a horse or pony. MLP is such happy memories, and they are so fun and colourful and happy. Plus we have a great community here.

I only had a few from my childhood, and one day uncovered them and decided to find their names, that's when I found Dream Valley's ID search. A little while later I found another pony in a thrift store, and used DV to ID her... that's when I learned G3s were coming out soon. The rest is history.

they're special since i had quite a few as a kid. i would also go over to my neighbor's house (literally) every day and play with her ponies. i'm also trying to make up for all my childhood ponies that were sold.
