I tend to permanently store problematic Buttons pose (and Love Melody pose) ponies who have trouble standing with tissue wrapped wooden sticks between their legs to keep them stable.  They have a bad tendency to warp back to falling over even just under their own weight.   If you do use a pencil, wrap it so the paint's not in direct contact with your pony's plastic.
G1 Wishlist  It's the final countdown! Looking to purchase the last few G1's for my collection - Watercolor Baby Sea Ponies Foamy, Misty & Surfy - Red Roses - SHS Sweet Sundrop - Springy - Teeny Tiny Snookums (#2)

I would just caution be careful what you use to help shape the legs. You can do even more damage unfortunately depending on what you press in to the plastic.

The trick that Mirn has mentioned of heating, shaping and then rapidly cooling works wonders as well :)
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
