I woke up really early yesterday to get to an estate sale that I had seen advertised on Craigslist. It was an estate sale for a toy collector, and although most of the items listed were dolls and other vintage toys and the usual household items, the ad listed vintage My Little Ponies near the end. Of course, you never know if they'll be baity ponies or only a few that you already have or fakies or not even vintage, but I went anyway.
It was 45 minutes away and I planned on being there about an hour early so that I could get a good entrance ticket. I ended up getting slightly lost and got there only a half an hour early.
My number was 311. "Are there 311 people planning on coming?" I wondered. But when they started calling out numbers (10 people could enter at a time), they started with 291. I was 20th in line . . . inside I despaired.
I knew that if 20 people came before me, any ponies they had might be gone. Several numbers in between 291 and 301 were called and no one showed up, so I actually moved forward a few spaces. Finally they called me! The first table visible was full of ponies.
There were about 30 or 40. Some were baity, some were nice; some were common, and some, to my surprise, were not so common. I had expected that there might be mainly Peachys and Sundances (nothing against those ponies, of course), but there were some unusual ponies who were there. It's super fun to find a table full of ponies, so I started picking some up. The prices kept me from being able to buy all of them, but that's okay. There was a lady next to me looking at them, too, with some in her hands, and she asked how to tell whether they were the older ones; I let her know she could look at the hoof stamp.
On a table nearby there was a MLP lunchbox, and baby sea pony floats! I picked them up quickly. Four of them! The estate sale organizers have you write what you're carrying on a receipt before you even check out, so the lady helping me put them down as baby teethers at $1 each.
There were some MLP thermoses (how do you pluralize that word?) in the kitchen and a stuffed Surprise in the very messy, very packed garage. As far as other toys, there were lots of MIB Barbies and many other dolls, some Cabbage Patch dolls with no clothes, and more along those lines.
Here's who I purchased! Some need a good cleaning still . . .

I had to leave behind some other ponies because I couldn't justify the price, but it wasn't too bad. I was very happy with who I found! I found it funny that apparently I looked knowledgeable since I was examining all the ponies for a long time; one guy asked me if the marked price was a good one, and I explained that for most of them it was a little high because they were flawed or common (I already had the good ones in my box, guilty me); he said he wished his wife were there. I would have tried to help him pick one out if she collects, but then again it's hard to know what she would like or who she has already. One of the dealers also asked me if all the ponies were genuine; I explained to her that one of them was actually a Cabbage Patch pony even though it was marked Hasbro.
So, it was fun and I'm thankful to have actually found some ponies.
