ID Needed! 1991 JPI ...another mystery!
« on: February 10, 2015, 07:52:00 PM »
It's so hard to tell if an unknown doll is worth buying.  At my favorite thrift store, they put all the dolls in plastic bags.  I'm not one to break the rules and open the bags, so I try to shift clothing around through the plastic.

Today I took a chance.  This doll looked as if she had never been played with...and I was right!  I gave her a spare pair of Barbie high heels, but the rest of the outfit is original.

The only markings are on the nape of the neck: 1991 J P I and on the shoulder blades: MADE IN CHINA

I found someone's site that specializes in JPI's Starr Modeling Agency Dolls, but nothing else!

Any ideas?

LoL, she's a bit wonk-eyed, isn't she?

I learned that JPI stands for Jakks Pacific Inc!

Still no idea who she is, though...

Her eyes are what made me buy her, Tilly :) that and her soft, full face.

Thanks for posting her in that dress! I was able to find out that she's a Jakks Pacific Holiday doll; I guess their answer to Mattel's holiday Barbie? If you type that in on Ebay you'll see a bunch though most have painted eyes not the inset. (Couldn't find your particular one).

I found this same girl last summer, well, her head anyway:P Her hair was crazy and cut in some spots and someone had glued her head to a Barbie body with a knock off dress. Been trying to figure out who she was but kept coming up with the dang Starr model dolls so thanks for posting yours!

That is so weird!  From what I can see, the body is exactly the same as a Barbie body!  Maybe the original owner, who seemed to be a creative child by your description, did something to the body and then regretted it?

She's such a nice quality doll!  Did you customize your doll? I'd love to see pictures if you did!

I was thinking about emailing Jakks directly.  I highly doubt they'd know, but it's worth a shot!
