Thanks Bergamot! I really do feel for the people that had to wait in line and spend that ridiculous amount of money, though. Basically all it adds up to now is a different color card / print run, which still makes it more valuable, but it still lost value. I hope that people realize it's more for your love of collecting, not resale! Seriously, how many of those people do you think were there just to flip it for profit?  I'm not saying everyone, but still.

Also, for anyone buying the chromes, especially with kids around... my :muffin: Pony has a very ragged metal point sticking out of the muffin. It is really sharp! Luckily mine is stored away in a doll case on a high shelf, but for anyone picking these up, just be careful.  ;)

Katja, the problem is that welovefine said these were limited edition items and they were limited to 600 total of each style (muffin and DJ).  Muffin was ONLY going to be at conventions and originally you had to buy $100 of other merchandise to be allowed to buy one figure and you had to be at a convention.

But then welovefine decided they would make another identical run of 600, then they did 1200 flocked versions, and another 1200 in chrome.  Also they started selling Muffin online and they made them available to buy without a required minimum purchase.

So this means they were not really limited editions of 600 and people who originally spent $100 extra to get them and who traveled to fairs, wasted time and money when if they knew welovefine was going to keep releasing them they could have bought them online for $20.

Welovefine has no clue what limited edition means to collectors and just applied their own definition to the words.  It was false advertising.  So people are mad.
They could have told people the first RUN will be 600, but if they are popular we will have more runs. Thinking you have 1 of 600 and then finding out that is not true is not right.

No one is upset that they are expensive in here.  They are $20 which isn't bad.  But some of us had to buy an extra $100 worth of merchandise to get them when they first came out. But now you can just get them at the $20 retail.

Nogame, I don't know. I think she is a creamy off white color. But not totally yellow.

I don't think many did.  I was watching ebay for one and there were never very many up.  I think most people at the conventions were true fans who wanted her.

Welovefine has no clue what limited edition means to collectors

That's just it. WLF doesn't care about collectors. More than half the Internet doesn't even know we exist, most people assume
that if you like/collect MLP, you're a brony. Which we know isn't the case, because the Arena houses all sorts of fans who go by different terms, but basically no one else knows better.

WLF cares about bronies, and only bronies. What is bad business by our standards will be completely different from someone who mostly just cares about the show
and fans of it.

Of course, I'm not saying they shouldn't have been more clear about what would happen with the figures, because it probably wouldn't have mattered to their intended audience whether five or five million figures were produced. I'm just making a point to mention who they're catering to and why they probably didn't even think it would be an issue.

Which stinks, because it would have been a pain to fly/drive all the way to a con just to buy something you could've bought online for much cheaper. :\

I agree with everything you you just said.  The problem I had with them is that I am a collector and I know the toy collecting world well enough to know what limited edition is supposed to mean across different fandoms.  So if any company pulls something like this they are doing something wrong.

I don't care that they don't care about collectors. I just want them to be honest and use terminology the right way.  I would have bought a $20 figure even if it wasn't limited, but I wouldn't have travelled and spent extra for it.

Even if they didn't mean to mislead people, they did.  I'm hoping they learn from complains how to use terminology correctly.

That's understandable, and the truth is, in a case like this we might need to become a little louder and make sure they know that we're here and we're not okay with this.
It might be extremely helpful if a bunch of us e-mailed them and said hey, here we are and we're not happy.

That's a good idea!   :)  I'm actually kind of over it, but I know I won't be falling for any of there future marketing campaigns.

Just popping in here to say I always believe things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. While you or I might not be willing to pay that much for a custom plush, some people are.

Whether you are a brony or a collector or something in between or neither...its still a cheeky way to go about flipping product. Yes its commercialism and WLF really dont care but I dont think it matters who their target market was, it is a little abusive.

THANK you for saying this <3 ooak art can most certainly be worth more than dollar signs to the right collector. I'm looking into commissioning a pony plush this summer and I'm definitely more than willing to pay top dollar for the best quality plush artist I can find for hire.

Exactly. My friend flew to BronyCon from here to get one, and they sold out before she could get to the booth. She bought one for $200 off eBay when she got home from the con thinking it would be an investment... I feel awful for her.

Definitely one good thing about the ever-presence of the Internet, if enough people posted commentary on a public Twitter or Facebook page, the company WILL actually be forced to take note and probably address the issue.  Before things like social media, we could have written thousands of letters and the company didn't even acknowledge that we did so.  It's a little harder to have the public ignore an issue that is posted on the company's official public communication channel...
