Little spot on Greek Cotton Candy? ):
« on: January 04, 2014, 09:43:58 PM »
Hi everyone!

Whilst cleaning up my newly purchased Greek Cotton Candy, I noticed two MINISCULE brownish orange dots on her rump - do you think this could be the start of pony cancer, or a rust spot maybe? Or discoloration in the plastic? If it's pony cancer, how should I treat it on a Greek? I'm very paranoid about things spreading between ponies ;_; What do you guys think?

Thanks everyone <3

Pony Cancer is a derogation of the plastic, so it won't spread to other ponies. If they are stored in similar conditions, some of them are more prone to it, but it can't get from one pony to another.

I hate to say it, but it does look like age spots of the plastic, at least to me :( It is possible that they won't get worse than that. I might be wrong though as the plastic used for Greeks is a tad different than the regular one :/ Have you tried cleaning it anyway?

It could be a stain of some kind. I have found spider 'dirt' leaves little orange stains even when it's been cleaned off.

Darn those spiders that use my pony shelves as a toilet and grave yard!

Doesn't look dark enough to me to be cancer. It looks like a stain from rust.

I agree that pony cancer if it is, won't spread, i have a custom with one cancer spot I have her for years now and the other ponies didn't get cancer:-)

Thanks so much for everyone's replies!
I have cleaned her with a toothbrush and it didn't come off, however I might try a tiny bit of nail varnish remover and see if that helps. I have always been under the impression that pony cancer can spread, as I thought it was a type of mould? I've been out of the ponyloop for quite a while now though, maybe there has been more research into it now or the mould type is referred to by a different name? At least now I know I don't have to quarantine her! XD

Thanks again everyone! <3

It is so small it could easily just be an imperfection in the plastic or a dye issue even. You could try magic eraser but as she is a greek you want to go super carefully with that of course - but perhaps it will be enough to tell you if its a surface issue or something in her plastic.

I've found that a type of mould and pony cancer are fairly similar in look and devistation. The mould seems to have a dark center while true cancer is kind of the same shade right through, though more degraded areas are certainly darker, so it's sneaky stuff! Mould actually seems to be less common in northern climated where cancer is equal everywhere.
