I keep forgetting to check my blocks! Finally remembered. ;) These are from my childhood Nursery, so I can say for certain that these 2 blocks are original.

Block #1:
engraved blue T
engraved pink G
red 3
brown N
blue U
green M

Block #2:
engraved lavender R
engraved yellow X
red 1
brown J
blue Q
green I

In regards to the primary colored blocks... I don't think they are original to the Nursery unless someone can say they opened a MIB set or had them since childhood. If a seller (or even a non-picky collector) knows that a nursery is supposed to have 2 blocks, it would be very easy to throw in whatever blocks they can find. The pastel colored blocks aren't an easy item to find, so a seller who doesn't know any better could easily replace them with primary color blocks.

Keep forgetting to post this, had an interesting find! Namley these!

Those strange primary colored blocks!

There were quite a few of them (many more than pictured here) , same cut, typeset, and size as the MLP blocks, all primary colors. After pondering it, I think I have the most likely explanation.

Wood cut blocks are actually hard to come by, and it wouldn't have made sense for Hasbro to make them themselves, they most likely contracted a woodworking company to produce them. So these blocks would be exactly the same as the blocks they were already producing (pictured above), just in pastel colors instead. IF primary colored blocks were indeed ever included with the nurseries, it's possible it was a mistake on the woodworkers part or they ran out of the pastel blocks and substituted primary colored ones instead.

I poked around on eBay for vintage (70's/80's) wooden blocks, and found a set made by Playskool with the same typeset. The box has a copyright date of 1978, but it's likely that the same exact blocks were produced for several years since wooden letter blocks are a pretty standard baby toy. Playskool was acquired by Hasbro in 1984. The Nursery came out in 1985. If Hasbro owned the rights to the Playskool block design, it would make sense that they reused the basic wooden design & painted them with pastel colors for a distinct look to go with MLP.

I don't think that the primary colored blocks aren't original MLP, even if they are the same design as it would not be the first time that Hasbro reused a mold for a different product line. ;)

Nice find! It certainly sounds like something Hasbro would do.

I will be back with everything typed up soon on the ones I have confirmed :) And I think its worth running the poll out of curiosity as well.

The primary colored blocks are called "alphabet blocks" and were a pretty standard baby toy for decades. They can very slightly by size, have a variety of makers and of course by designs. You can find new ones in stores and besides being a baby toy they are used often in crafts. My blocks from when I was little had a little cart you could put them in and pull them around.

My Lullabye Nursery blocks are misplaced at the moment (I am going to have to figure that one out). My nursery has been in storage at my parents house for years, but I remember that both were a lavender/yellow block.
