« on: August 08, 2013, 09:39:30 AM »
Hi guys so as said quick question for ya

What's the best glue for sticking something to a custom for example a small button, beads, that kind of thing?

In my custom kit atm I have tacky glue is that enough or do i need something with more oomph?

DISCLAIMER: I have not tried this on a pony!

However, when I do decoden and even some cosplay stuff my favorite adhesive is E6000.  It's an epoxie base and will hold nearly anything together, but takes a few hours to dry.  It's thick, too, so using a toothpick or something to apply it gives a lot of control.
Dunno if anyone else has tried it, but you may want to test it on something else first.

I know when I've been round to PinkKittyWinks' house she has helped me by using some 2-part epoxy. It sticks great and she swears by it! (and My TE's eyes are really STUCK in! ;) )

I also use Superglue but it's a demon for misting up pretty things or destroying surfaces (or sticking fingers together, or your fingers to your lips.... yeah that's me)

I use superglue generally, but I never put it directly from the tube onto the pony - not enough control. I squirt some out and use a toothpick to apply it.

I like e6000 for a lot of things, but I am not sure about it on a pony. I think I read that someone tried to use it to glue a pony head back on and it didn't work very well. I have no personal experience using it on ponies though.

I use a combination of fabric glue and superglue. I've generally not had any issue using my rehairing glue - I think I use Aleen's fabric glue, but I can't remember and my supplies are sort of a nightmare to get into to check, but lately I've been attaching heads when I can't use the neck plug with superglue, since it's stronger. The gel-like glue slides around too much for heads, imo. I'll probably just switch to superglue for adding gem accents and things too though, since it dries faster and is know for a good hold.

My Mum is a reborn artist and she uses this glue on her dolls. I believe it is used to glue the hair in, so it must be very strong. But I remember reading a warning on the back that there's something carcinogenic (meaning it can cause cancer) in it, so please be careful if you use it.

E6000 stinks to high heaven and i would be really afraid it would melt the pony :C

I use a model glue (that is way better than super or krazy glue) called Zap a Gap. I get the kind with the green label. It's used to put pewter miniatures together, along with a lot of other types of models. It has a super strong hold, but it doesn't melt the plastic.

This is exactly how I apply my glue as well.

I bought some of that E6000 and I was not impressed.  It does have a terrible smell and it just takes WAY too long to dry.

I also use Modeler's Glue.  It is called Insta-cure+ and is made in the US and distributed to various hobby/model shops and then those shops put their name label on.  It is great for gap filling and they sell glues with various bonding times.  They also make a de-bonder that is amazing for unglueing anything that you have used the super glue on.  It turns the cyanoacrylate into a crystalized form that can be easily scraped or washed away in seconds...unglues fingers too!
