Apoxie Sculpt?
« on: July 15, 2013, 01:36:00 PM »
So, I have some customizing I would like to do that would require some sculpting.  It's mostly to make little jewelry bits, but in one case I need to repair a slightly gnawed foot...
I've been reading about using different clays for customs, and have some experience with Sculpy, but like what I'm hearing about using apoxie sculpt.
So, I guess, this comes down to 2 questions:
Is there a good place to find this stuff, not online?  I mean, I don't have a problem buying online, but like to shop local first.  Otherwise, is there a place online you recommend buying?
Secondly, what's a good amount to get?  I don't plan on doing a ton of stuff with it, and the smallest quantity I've found online is a 1/4 pound... At the same time I can't help but worry it won't be enough (because I'm a crazy worry wart )

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!!

I ordered mine from Amazon to keep me from having to drive around searching for it.  I got the 1 pound containers.

I saw some at Hobby Town USA if you have one of those near you. And I have read that you can find it at craft stores near the jewelry and beads section

I get mine directly from Aves. I order 4 lb each time (or more!) though and they ship it flat rate. For something smaller I would go with amazon or ebay. I'm going to check hobbytown USA though that's awesome if mine carries it!!

As far as preference for fine details I would say try each kind and see what you prefer. I have found I like the clay more than I like the sculpt s far as details and for REALLY fine details (feathers etc) I love Fixit sculpt.

I also offer a bulk order for people wanting to split sometimes (though I'm pretty stocked up right now) to save on shipping :)

I have one about 45 minutes from me, and it's right next to a fabric store I've been wanted to get up to...

Also, I will have to check by the beading!  When I looked at the craft store, I looked by the other clays!

How much does that come out to though?  It sounds like a lot, but I'm not sure how heavy the product is...

I've never had any luck finding it in stores, sadly.

It was $22.60 on there.  Because it was so close to $25.00, I added a small item I wanted for my son so that shipping would be free and I try to order a couple of things at one time anyway.

I actually changed over to Magic Sculpt.  The apoxie you see at the craft stores is not the same as aves.  It is a two part though and I know Micheals carries but I have never seen it at AC Moore.  If you only have a small bit to do, you can try it but it is not cheap so make sure you snag a coupon.

I buy mine directly from Aves, it came out the cheapest out of everywhere I looked, including Amazon. I bought the 4 pound containers quite a while back and I've done quite a bit of heavy sculpting on customs and barely dented the tubs
