You have to be very careful with chicken jerky treats. There are hundreds of deaths reported in the past few years and thousands of dogs getting ill from them especially those made in China. Its gotten to a point where even the FDA is testing these treats over and over to find out what's doing it. Unfortunately all they've been able to find with the tests available withour technology today is that China is using antibiotics in their chicken that is not approved in the US and the FDA doesn't think that's killing the dogs. My dog would also swallow the jerky treats whole.

Ellie had a rawhide scare around Christmastime. We'd heard warnings, but they're so ubiquitous, we had kind of a "not my dog" attitude that the hazard risk was pretty low. She was chewing as usual and must have gotten a piece lodged in her throat the wrong way. It was super scary - we were afraid she wasn't going to make it.

Thank goodness she was OK in the end, but no more rawhides for either of our pups.

No changes to the rawhide in water yet today. I threw some vinegar in the jar to see what happens.

Oh wow! I hadn't heard this at all... I am glad you mentioned it! I would think real food ingredients would be a safer alternative but I guess it's also where the treats are made and where the ingredients come from factor in safety too!

I think I'll stick to home made dog treats and canned puree pumpkin as treats :q

Those sweet potato chewies sound great!! But I don't think they sell them here :( Any ideas on how we could make them ourselves?

I was looking at the sweet potatoe ones too, Gracie isn't allergic to them!  But I'm not seeing which country they are made in.  If I can find that out I can order some extra and ship them to you.

Took Gracie's sutures out today! Now she can have a bath yay! And back to our regular schedules life, no more e collar and cage rest.

I wish I would of snapped a picture of the rawhide, and how it had changed size/ texture.  It was in her pylorus for probably a little under 24 hours, she was drinking water, but would not eat anything.  Which she is a nibble of her dog food, but she never turns down peanut butter.

rawhides can be scary.
our dog doesn't get them often and if she does its the kind that are ground up? if that makes sense.
i'm very particular about what our dog eats. and even though we got her a rawhide for Christmas
she only gets if for 20 mins every few weeks.

our dog loves the fishstick type treats. goes crazy for them
