The drawing is honestly kinda creeping me out. If that's what the toy looks like I'd be scared!

Bwahaha, I guess I can kind of see how it can be a little unsettling rather than cute in that silly way. I never thought about it being creepy until now!

Unfortunately, I did get a chance to ask my mom about it, and she mentioned that it did come from the dime store that I mentioned. Specifically, Danners, which was an Indianapolis-based outlet with several stores branching out into the state. We do live right outside of Indy, so it makes sense that we would have it. But if it came from there, that means it was locally made and therefore there would be little info on it. Which makes me sad, because it's a really cool toy!

BUT if there are several memories being jogged by this, I'm wondering if it was a knock-off of a specific toy line or maybe if the molds were pirated and sold all over the country? She did say that she was "a little old for it" when she bought it, but it was just too cute for her to not take it home. That would place its date of purchase to the late '60s, possibly early '70s.

If I ever find him, I will post a picture here for just the lols if anything else. :silly:

Look up circus zeki bird on ebay. Does it resemble that thing? I know its not an exact match to your description and not as old but maybe the character is older and other toys were made.

I looked him up, Crumpet, and I don't think he's ringing any bells.

That's an excellent theory though, since several memories seem to be jogged by this...

It looks muppety. It reminds me of red fraggle from Fraggle Rock, but that's too new.

No idea.. but have you tried the forum over at ghostofthedoll as well? They've helped me identify a LOT of my old childhood toys that I never thought anyone would know about. They're total experts.. xD

Good luck!

I was considering a cross post at GOTD, but just never got around to it. I think I probably will since this has become so intriguing!

Squirmy, what do you know about your '70s doll?

You expect me to remember what I played with 45+ years ago?

I think it might have been local, I totally do not recall anything like that in our house.
