I go through phases where I spend every spare waking moment trying to trace more of my family tree.
The furthest I have managed to get is on my dads mothers line and have gone back to 1670 - I think I can get further back but its getting tricky.
I've discovered family branches that emigrated and some that have stayed in the same small town/village for centuries.

The most frustrating family to trace is my dads fathers. He was born in South Africa and as they never used to keep any birth or marriage records I've found it impossible to trace the line back. Even the family that I have in South Africa haven't been able to help.

I find it fascinating and will continue recording our future generations (my children, my brothers/brother in law's children, my cousins children etc etc) so that in the future they will be able to trace/see where they came from without the amount of effort it has taken me!
